He'd been distracted, fingertips running over burn scars as he browsed items and books. The bard's gaze rose to catch, well, the other bard. Valdo. It had been a little while since they'd last seen one another, hadn't it? He straightened, turning to properly face the man. "What? Me? Wh--- Never. I never search for trouble. Not once. It's not my fault if it happens to find me." Cornflower gaze flicked over Valdo. "Planning on bringing some with you?"

    “mm –?”  val asks as his little buttercup starts caressing his face.  he can feel the PAUSE as julian’s fingers brush against the slight dip in his skin under his beard.  it’s not easily visible, and valdo does not enjoy shaving because it stares back at him when he’s clean shaven.  he’s put more of his YOUTH behind him; pawel is no more, but there are still remnants.  “yes, love?”  he can feel the quizzical look on jaskier’s face without even seeing his eyes.  “don’t worry.  it’s an old wound.”  it’s clear val does not wish to talk about it.  he never really talks MUCH about his time before oxenfurt, especially as he gets older.  “it’s nothing to dwell on.”  

his smile does not reach his eyes.

Jaskier let his fingers linger still, curious about the scar. He was always curious about the parts of Valdo’s past that he didn’t talk about--- though he was aware neither of them enjoyed remembering their own pasts. It didn’t help either of them much to hide it, though. Not from each other. He knew the other bard wouldn’t use any of it against him and he hoped Valdo knew that he never would, either.

“I know that reaction. I know it because I’ve used it, myself.” There was that scar on his arm, the one from almost immediately after he’d left Oxenfurt. The one he never talked about and constantly brushed off. “I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.”

The conversation had been going just fine, in fact, Nandor found himself enjoying the attention he was receiving from the other, but this, him sitting on his lap crossed a line that he had not given Valdo any indication that he had allowed him to cross. His laugh stopped and the smile that had been on his lips immediately vanished and he silently stared at him, and judgement was the only thing one could see in his eyes. “Are you comfortable? what do you think I am? a chair?” By the tone in his voice, it was evident that his mood had gone from good to bad in a matter of seconds. “Well, come on! get off me! up, up!”
