i was minding my business and attacked by modern AU accessor verse and JUST THE IDEA of like how the history fits into modern erotica and courtship/culture (like imagining a swiping dating app matching lers/lees/switches and dean and cas meeting awkwardly on there & being cute and teasey) and like the folk songs/folk customs (like the feet thing) being vaguely recognizable in their modern form but still there
anyway, great work all, glad i have something new to spiral and be deranged about!
The typical profile pictures on social media are all the usual things - smiles, dogs, kids, partners. But on dating apps, the unspoken expectation is for a candid laughing shot. It keeps cycling in and out of fashion every decade or so to have a casual full-body barefoot photo in there, too.
It’s early in Dean’s working relationship with Cas, and he doesn’t spend loads of time trawling potential matches. He’s pretty busy with work, and to be honest he’s not even sure exactly what he’d be looking for anyway. But he does take a swipe through every so often, just to see. There’s a guy that catches his eye once, with a huge gummy smile and a nose scrunch that rivals an accordion, and Dean thinks that’s pretty damn cute. The guy has a vaguely familiar look about him that Dean can’t place, but he hearts the profile to check out later.
“Later” doesn’t arrive until the day after he and Cas both worked that woman’s reference session. Damn, he’d forgotten how fun it was to throw down on somebody. A million extra bonus points for that somebody being Cas, who has been putting Dean through the wringer for months. Getting to take him to pieces was awesome. He’s kinda geared up over it and opens the app to see if anybody strikes his fancy for a hookup.
That guy is still in his saves. And Dean almost chokes because it’s Cas. He hadn’t even realized, because Cas is so cool and professional whenever Dean’s working for him, but he’d gotten to experience Cas’ laugh for the first time yesterday, up close and personal, and it’s kind of stupidly attractive. The profile picture captures it pretty well.
He’s not going to request a match with his fucking boss on a dating app. (Client, technically, but still.)
That won’t stop him from thinking about it, though.
