This is the gorgeous Thornton-le-Dale in Yorkshire... Could Yorkshire be the most beautiful county in England? It's certainly in the top 5 for me. What do you think.... . Said by some to be the prettiest village in Yorkshire, Thornton-Le-Dale is proper chocolate box material. Quite literally in fact as images of this thatched cottage beside Dalby Beck are regularly used on biscuit tins and calendars. 17th Century Almshouses and a small village green complete the perfect English village scene. They even have stocks to punish anyone who puts cream on their scone before the jam. Always remember folks: Jam and then a small bit of clotted cream. It's the law. And if you you’re into cycling, there are some fantastic trails at nearby Dalby Forest. Interesting little fact: It's believed The Angles who conquered Yorkshire between AD 500-540, must have given Thornton its name, as the countryside was thickly wooded by thorn bushes. .
