Josh Brookes Completes Sensational Line Up At Be Wiser Ducati In BSB 2019
2015 BSB champion Josh Brookes completes the ultra-competitive line up for team boss Paul Bird having signed to race for the Be Wiser Ducati Team in the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship.
The 35-year-old Australian from Bringelly in New South Wales will partner returning MotoGP ace Scott Redding aboard a second factory-backed Be Wiser Ducati V4 in the 12 round series which kicks off at Silverstone on Easter Sunday (21st April) next year.
Brookes has a wealth of British Superbike experience to date including over 220 starts and is currently fourth in the list of all-time BSB race winners with a total of 39 victories prior to this weekend’s season finale at Brands Hatch, where he did the double earlier in the season.
As well as his domination en route to the 2015 BSB title, Josh has been runner-up three times in his BSB tenure as well as winning the 2005 Australian Superbike Championship. He also has two World Supersport Championship victories to his name.
He completes a superb line up for the Lake District-based PBM team who announced GP winner Redding last week having confirmed that both riders will have the very latest Ducati V4 machinery at their disposal.
In addition to their British Superbike Championship campaigns, Redding and Brookes are also planning on doing at least one event in the World Superbike Championship as a wild card, hopefully the UK round, once the calendar is finalised.
Josh Brookes: “PBM have been the benchmark during much of my time in BSB and have always set the bar very high. With Shakey being my arch-rival, I never really saw myself riding alongside him but when things changed, it became a real consideration, although I wish him a full recovery. The Be Wiser Ducati V4 will be an awesome bike and I’m excited to be a part of this, and to start winning regularly again. I know the team will be at the forefront once again in 2019 and I’m really looking forward to this challenge.”
Paul Bird, Team Owner: “We are the first team to announce our riders and plans for 2019 so we can now concentrate on winning the BSB title back next year which is our sole aim. Josh is a quality act who is totally focused on winning and is capable of that when he has the right tools as he has proved. We will give him exactly what he needs, as we will Scott, and that should provide some healthy rivalry within the garage. This is an exciting time and a new era for PBM and we can’t wait to get started in our quest.”

Scott Redding Signs For Be Wiser Ducati In BSB 2019
Grand Prix winner Scott Redding will contest the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship having signed a deal to race for the multiple British Championship winning Be Wiser Ducati Team.
25-year-old Redding, from Quedgeley in Gloucestershire, teams up with Lake District-based Paul Bird Motorsport (PBM) once again, the pair resurrecting a partnership which saw team boss ‘Birdy’ back Redding in various junior championships at the start of his career which started in mini motos in 2001.
With PBM having won the BSB title most recently for Be Wiser Ducati in 2016 and 2017 before Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne was ruled out through injury when challenging for this year’s crown, Redding will have at his disposal the very latest and brand-new factory-backed Be Wiser Ducati V4 with full support from Ducati Corse for whom he has raced previously.
Redding is the most high-profile signing in BSB in recent seasons and the fact that the series is of such standing to attract a current MotoGP rider is testament to its continued success, level of competition and manufacturer support.
Scott is a four-times Grand Prix winner who for the past five seasons has raced in the elite MotoGP class, claiming two podiums during that time. He is also a twice winner of the British Grand Prix on a 125 Aprilia in 2008 at Donington Park, where he still remains the youngest rider to win a GP aged 15 years and 170 days, and in 2013 at Silverstone aboard a Kalex in the Moto2 World Championship, where he was denied the title due to injury prior to the final round.
In addition to their British Superbike Championship campaign, Redding and the Be Wiser Ducati Team are also planning on doing at least one event in the World Superbike Championship as a wild card, hopefully the UK round, once the calendar is finalised.
Scott Redding: “It’s fantastic to be coming to BSB, it’s a championship I’ve never raced in and learning the circuits is very much part of the challenge which I’m looking forward to most. This is a very exciting venture for me with a very competitive bike and the most successful team and I’m here to show what I can do. We will make the right preparations and I’m delighted the first round will be at Silverstone where I have great memories. MotoGP is tough and without the correct packages, it’s hard to win but BSB is at such a high level, I want to prove I’m capable of winning. It’s also a new experience and very important that I can race in front of my loyal fans in the UK more regularly.”
Paul Bird, Team Owner: “Scott and I go back a long way and I’m delighted to continue our relationship in this latest chapter of his career. He’s a quality rider, as is anyone who can win at Grands Prix and we are confident he will be a title fighter in BSB aboard the Be Wiser Ducati next season. A lot of people have worked hard to put this deal together so thanks to them and thanks also to our outgoing riders Shakey and Glenn. They have done a great job for us over the years, but it was time to call it a day with them and I wish them well in future.”
The second rider aboard the Be Wiser Ducati to contest the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship will hopefully be announced in the next couple of weeks.

Andrew Irwin To Ride Be Wiser Ducati
Ulsterman Andrew Irwin will join elder brother Glenn in the Be Wiser Ducati British Superbike Championship Team starting with round four at Snetterton this weekend (June 15/17).
It follows the unfortunate accident which befell six times and reigning Bennetts BSB champion Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne at the official BSB test at Snetterton last month which left the Londoner with a number of serious injuries and meant he would be out of action for the foreseeable future.
As a result, team owner Paul Bird has recruited the 23 year old from Carrickfergus, who has won at British Supersport Championship level and this year has been contesting the World Supersport Championship with a best result of tenth at Donington Park last month.
Both PBM team riders are testing at Knockhill today prior to the event at Snetterton getting underway on Friday.
Johnny Mowatt, Team Co-ordinator: “The last thing we wanted or indeed expected to be doing was to find another rider in place of Shakey, but we have a responsibility to Ducati, whom we are very proud to represent, as well as our valued sponsors and the series organisers to field two riders where possible. Andrew knows the team and will fit in well despite his lack of experience, which is where Glenn’s help and guidance will be so valuable moving forwards. Shakey is still an integral part of our team and, being the professional he is, he fully understands the situation and supports the decision to bring Andrew in at this time.”
Andrew Irwin: “To be given an opportunity with one of the best teams in the paddock is amazing and I can’t thank everyone at PBM and Be Wiser Ducati enough. This is going to be a very steep learning curve but one which doesn’t daunt me, as I know with everyone’s help it will be made a lot easier, and who better to have on the other side of the garage than my big brother! I’ll give it my all and hope the results reflect the effort I’ll be putting in. I’d like to wish Shakey well in his recovery and I’ll do my best to keep the seat warm for him!”
