I originally shared this on discord but @jovialstar requested that it be put somewhere easy to find so here it is on tumblr. This was actually suppossed to be up here looooooonggggg ago but i procrastinate and i've never shared elaborate hcs here so i was a little shy too. Anyway here goes-
I hc that yuriy has mysophobia. All because of what he went through the abbey so tried to get rid of all the feeling of touch and chemicals off by constantly scrubbing and keeping himself clean. And so he's not at all comfortable with people touching him. It probably feels like a thousand centipedes and insects crawling over him as soon as anyone touches him. Even in the series we rarely see anyone initiating physical contact with him (minus the handshake with Takao but that's cuz it was the happy end of the first season) and then in grev when garland beats him to a pulp, we see that he only holds Takao's jacket a lil with his fingers. Good chance he's not completely comfortable with Takao but it's because of that battle in season.
TlDr; Yuriy has mysophobia and Takao might be a slight exception to this.
This next one is kind of an extension to/is based on @jovialstar 's hc that Yuriy hates being told what to do and hence the angry outbursts.
Since he dislikes being ordered around, i suppose it would lead to fist-fights. And being the top blader/soldier of Borg means he has been trained in various forms of physical fights (im sure I saw a manga panel where he was being trained in the abbey and it showed glimpses of him running and a boxing ring)
Sooooo I assume it would easily get bloody and dangerous.
Now I'm not sure if Yuriy could ever be convinced to go to therapy and talk about emotions with someone who's not even aware of the existence of Borg, much less the horrors he survived there, so it would instead be with people who have been inside it at some point that is - Boris, Ivan, Sergei, Kai and Takao. I know the rest of bba went in too but it was Takao who's actually had a peek at the facilities and the research (in the anime atleast).
And I have another hc connecting to why Yuriy would only ever get along with neoborg and bba-all the members of bba but it clashes with the series a little I think.
Regardless, I hc him getting along with Max the most after/during(most probably after) rising arc because:
1. Yuriy is mysophobic meaning he won't tolerate any dirt or germs so he would be obsessed with keeping clean.
2. Max now has a little sister Charlotte and I assume once she's older enough to not be nursed anymore, Judy would be back in the US and the responsibility would fall onto Max and his dad. Max would mostly take the initiative to take care of her because it would remind him of how Judy seemed to prioritise ppb over him during and before the events of season1. So he would try his best not to let his younger sister experience even an ounce of it and take the charge to raise her. Also cuz his dad would be busy with the hobby shop too. So now since Charlotte is young/a baby this means, no germs and Max would thus become very hygiene oriented.
Therefore, Yuriy would eventually warm up to Max the most because he's the most clean. I believe at one point he wouldn't even mind physical contact with Max because he knows that this guy always makes sure he's super clean because of his sister. Oh and also Yuriy might get a little attached to Charlotte because it's a little human who has no idea about the atrocities Yuriy did/has been through, etc etc. I haven't clearly imagined how exactly it would play out though.
Anyways, for the therapy-talk, let's see:
Yuriy talking with anyone from the rest of the neoborg? Not happening. He's the leader and he needs to have his emotions in check. Im sure Yuriy would never let his problems affect his brothers so he most likely would not want to talk to them. Not a serious what-is-wrong-with-me kind atleast.
Next week have Kai and as much as the Grev Takao VS Brooklyn battle end showed that they had a mutual understanding with each other, I don't think he would talk to him. I don't think Yuriy would be over his jealousy against Kai because Yuriy has no family, no home, and he certainly wasn't born into a rich family that could easily provide him with a job(AS A CEO AT THAT) in the future. So yea, it won't be Kai.
Takao? Im not sure. Sure Takao is happy, cheerful and always the positive we-can-do-anything kinda guy, but Grev showed Yuriy he's not completely free from his worries either. I suppose after rising, as the two teams hang out often he would at one point come to find that Takao has no mother, his father isn't emotionally present and that his BROTHER joined BEGA to help VOLKOV raise Brooklyn. After that he would warm up to Takao a little too and maybe listen to him when things get too violent. HOWEVER still not comfortable enough to talk about it himself. It would always be one-sided with Takao doing the talking.
The rest of the bba members? Not familiar enough so No.
That's where this hc comes into play. Once Yuriy warms up to Max, he would see that Max is smart. Not only book or street smart but emotionally too. The guy can keep his emotions in check, knows how to pull himself back up after he's been down and more. So it would eventually at some point be him. It wouldn't be much different from how it is with Takao but i suppose with Max things are a whole lot more calmer. It would thus be Max who suggests that Yuriy take up Law. Because if he has trouble controlling his fists, he might as well channel it somewhere else because law is kinda like 'a fight but with words'. I think Max would further point out how Yuriy would make a good lawyer because he's good at masking expressions and motives, good at analyzing situations and has a commanding voice. Also being a lawyer meant that Yuriy could sue Borg and/or prevent similar tragedies. So i suppose he would walk down that path.
zTlDr; Yuriy is a lawyer in future cuz Max told him it's better to fight with words than fists
