“Typical Illusion (Dub)” // Bad News // Beyond Inversion: A Benefit for Rachael's Women Center in DC
Accidental Guest, 2013
Terrible video of that one time I played organ with Fake Limbs. This cut is what was used on beyondinversion's Benefit for Rachael's Women Center tape.
Beyond Inversion makes it in Pitchfork's year end guest list
Beyond Inversion got a nice mention in pitchfork's year end guest list thanks to Meredith of Perfect Pussy. Meredith said some really nice things about the comp. It goes without saying we are extremely thankful and very flattered!
"5. The release of the BEYOND INVERSION compilation: Jes Skolnik and Sean Gray deserve a parade for compiling this tape, which will stand as an incredible portrait of music in this moment, and not just because of the bands included (SPLIT FEET, IN SCHOOL, GOOD THROB, TECHNICOLOR TEETH and so many others)-- it will also stand as a testament to the continuing relevance of radical politics in the DIY music scene. Sean and Jes are donating a hundred percent of proceeds to Rachael's Women's Center, an organization that provides care and resources to homeless and formerly homeless women. Jes's explanation of the comp's title as 'tearing down [binaries] and rebuilding' is exemplary of the work the bands included are doing to create vital and interesting music outside the sometimes-rigid boundaries of punk and hardcore, as well as the continued efforts of activists like Sean and Jes to dismantle oppressive systems and prove again and again that better work can be done in their place. "
Various Artists - Beyond Inversion (Accidental Guest Recordings) I'm not doing a review of this one, because it is impossible to review a comp that has so many different styles of music on it without going track by track, which I don't have the time or energy for right now. Suffice it to say that there is not a throwaway track on here, and this track ("Tom Girl" by Hive Bent) is one of my particular faves.
