Influences
We all have those moments...our angel on one side, the devil on the other.
The angel is our good influence, telling us not to do anything risky to our health or even our sanity. They keep us in check and protects us from the negative consequences of our actions...well, try to.
The devil is our bad influence, they encourage us to take risks and stay away from the safety net. They can even encourage you to have a little fun.
Replace the angel and devil with your friends...have you got an idea over who they are?
No?
Don’t worry, I don’t have one either.
The devil, yes, it’s easy...because our friends often tell us to take risks and try something new. They help us make life feel exciting and can encourage you to have a little fun.
But the angel...well, there are times where the angel doesn’t exist. I kept thinking if my friends always played it safe, would we be able to try anything new?
Maybe we’re the angel, trying to push ourselves to make good decisions but safe decisions...too safe.
I always tell my friends, “Don’t let me buy that pizza!” but they never listen, possibly because it’ll always play on my mind and mess me up big time.
The angel can keep you safe, but they can also leave you with one thing...regret.
So, do I wish my friends were the angel on my shoulder?
Sure, I would have more money in my bank account...
...and I would still be following my diet...
...and I would have gotten more energy from sleep instead of coffee.
But no. I wouldn’t prefer my friends to be angels. They’re the ones to tell me to have a laugh and have some fun. They’re the ones preventing me from having regrets that will last years. And they would also be the ones to tell me to try something new.
At the end of the day, the angel can only advise you over whether you want to carry the path, the devil can tell you to at least try it.
I’d rather be my own angel and let my friends be the devil.
Life is more fun that way!
