Jeff Hardy beat Samoa Joe to move on to the finals and face Bully Ray who defeated James Storm. Jeff then beat Bully Ray and will be faced Austin Aries for the world title at Bound for Glory.

Crossing the Impact Zone – 08/17/12

Hello everybody and welcome to Crossing the Impact Zone, covering the August 16, 2012 episode.  This week we have the aftermath from Hardcore Justice.  What will Bobby Roode do now that he can’t challenge for the World Title while Austin Aries has it?  Also, the Bound for Glory Series is starting wind down with three big matches tonight.  Finally, what do Aces & Eights have in store for the Impact broadcast?  Well, we’re about to find out!

We begin with the triumphant World Champion, Austin Aries comes out to the ring.  Aries talks about how ever since he became champion, that he was a fluke, so much so that he was starting to believe it.  That was, until he beat Roode on Sunday.  Aries then says he’s the face of Impact Wrestling and no one’s going to tell him what to think, say or do.  Aries then sends a message to Aces & Eights, saying no matter who’s in charge of them and who wins the BfG Series, he’s walking out of Bound for Glory with the World Title.  Aries is then interrupted by the Charismatic Enigma, Jeff Hardy.

Hardy says he doesn’t know what’s going on, but he’s been chasing the title for the past year.  He then congratulates Aries and says he’s going to win the Series and they’ll tear it up at Bound for Glory.  Hardy then calls out Aces & Eights, but instead gets Bully Ray.

Ray starts by calling Hardy stupid, reiterating that James Storm is behind Aces & Eights, then making a comment about how Jeff’s brother was the smart one.  Ray makes the point that both times when Storm was in trouble during their match, Aces & Eights came out to cause the distraction so that Storm could take control.  Aries then says Ray has a problem in becoming world champion, as Ray has to go through him.  Aries then implies that maybe Ray has something to do with Aces & Eights himself.

They get interrupted by a video of Aces & Eights on the big screen.  Their leader says that Ray got lucky on Sunday. They then say that tonight, they plan on making their presence felt in a big way.

We get a look at the leader board for the BfG Series.

Backstage – Magnus talks about his match with Samoa Joe tonight, saying he knows everything there is to know about Joe.

Match 1 – Bound for Glory Series – Samoa Joe (54pts) vs. Magnus (28pts) / Referee – Brian Stiffler

Great back and forth between a couple of guys who know each other very well.  An intense match that saw both men give each other their best shots.  Magnus showed an excellent power game with a delayed bodyslam on Joe early in the match while Joe kept with what brought him to the game, focusing on the submission.  However, Joe ends up betting the pinfall on a cradle pin.  Winner – Samoa Joe (61pts) / Grade – C+

After the match, Joe tries to shake Magnus’ hand, but Magnus isn’t having any part of it.  Joe then pats Magnus on the back out of respect before leaving the ring.  Magnus, who’s clearly dejected, leaves the ring and grabs a chair, taking a swing at Joe, who blocks the shot with his arm.

Backstage – Madison Rayne talks about her win for the Knockouts title on Sunday.  Rayne is then approached by a stagehand, who says Brook Hogan wants to see her in the ring.  Rayne thinks it’s about a celebration for her win.

We come back to Rayne making her way out to the ring.  Rayne tells the live crowd how Brooke made a special request  to see her, saying that the queen has regained her throne.  Rayne then says she hopes Brooke brings cake to her party.  Rayne then talks about how she wouldn’t be where she is without Earl, calling him into the ring.

Brooke Hogan makes her way out to the stage, saying there’s obviously been some shady actions going on with Earl and Rayne.  Brooke then says Earl will no longer be refereeing anymore knockouts matches.  Brooke then reminds Rayne that Tessmacher has her rematch for the title tonight and says she’s brought in a special referee for the match.  Rayne then says that Brooke is only doing what she’s doing because of her last name and is all talk, inviting her into the ring.  Well, Brooke doesn’t back down, getting into the ring as Rayne makes a hasty retreat.

As Brooke is focused on, Aces & Eights slip into the ring behind her.  Brooke turns around to see the men and is backed into a corner.  But just as they get her cornered, the cavalry arrives in the form of Aries, Hardy, Ray, Kurt Angle & James Storm, running off Aces & Eights as we go to commercial.

We come back and Sting’s joined the group, saying tonight we learned a lot about Aces & Eights tonight.  Sting the talks about how Aces & Eights want to run as a pack, well Sting has a pack of his own.  Sting then talks about how next week is Open Fight Night and  challenges Aces & Eights to open the show next week.

Backstage – Daniels & Kazarian talk about this edition of Spiderman with them in it.  Kaz then talks about how AJ Styles is denying Clair Lynch’s baby is his.  Kaz then makes a comment about Lynch’s looks as Styles walks in, laughing a bit.  Styles says he had to be drugged to sleep with Lynch in the first place and then makes a proposition to Daniels.  If Daniels wins tonight’s match, Styles takes responsibility for the baby.  If Style wins, he gets a paternity test.

Before the match even begins, Brian Hebner kicks Kaz out for the match, making sure the match is one on one.

Match 2 – Bound for Glory Series – Christopher Daniels (33pts) vs. AJ Styles (36pts) / Referee – Brian Hebner

Great match between two eternal rivals.  Styles showing a bit rougher of a style then he usually uses, while Daniels focuses on cheap pins and looking for a count out win.  Styles also shows off his technical side, going for a few different submission holds during the match.  Daniels actually manages a submission hold of his own that almost puts Styles out.  At one point, both men are out side the ring.  Daniels tries to whip Styles into the ring apron, but AJ hops up onto the apron, slips into the ring, then runs off the ropes and hits a flip dive outside to Daniels.  As Styles gets back into the ring, Kaz runs out, unseen by AJ or Hebner.  Kaz stays low along side the ring, telling Daniels to go back in.  Daniels gets up onto the apron and Styles goes for the suplex in, but Kaz grabs AJ’s foot and holds it down and it seems that Daniels gets the three count.  However, this time Hebner’s caught Kaz on the outside and moves over, admonishing him and telling Daniels the match is still going.  Styles ducks a clothesline from Daniels, then levels him with a Pele kick and picking up the pinfall win.  Winner- AJ Styles (43pts) / Grade – B-

After the match, Styles stares down Kaz for a moment, then gets back into the ring and hits a Styles Clash on Daniels.

Backstage – Sting talks to Hulk Hogan, who says that he’s going to be at Impact with Sting next week.  Sting then asks if Hogan’s ready for “old school”.  Hogan says that “old school” is the only way to go.

Backstage – Hardy approaches Storm in the locker room, talking about how Aces & Eights cost him 20 points on Sunday and how they helped James twice.  Storm says he’s tired of people accusing him of being part of them and is very willing to fight them with Sting next week.  Storm then says he’ll be at ringside during Hardy’s match tonight to make sure the group doesn’t show up.

Backstage – Bobby Roode makes his way into the Impact Zone.

We come back and Roode makes his way slowly to the ring.  Roode talks about how he had a chance to right the wrong on Sunday and prove that Aries’ win for the title was a fluke.  Roode then says he did prove it, saying he defeated Aries when Brian Hebner counted three and declared him the winner.  Roode then talks about how Earl Hebner restarted the match, which he’d clearly won and as a result, he didn’t get his belt back.  Roode talks about how he doesn’t get another rematch against Aries.  Roode says the title was everything to him, that it was his life.  Roode says he looked in the mirror and realized there’s only one person to blame for this, naming Austin Aries, then Sting, then the referees and then the fans.  Roode talks about how the fans are to blame for treating him with disrespect, calling him a loser and saying that he sucks.  Roode then says he’s faced with the question of what he’s going to do now.  Roode then starts to say what he’s going to do, but stops, drops the mic and leaves, very reminiscent of the James Storm promo after Lockdown.

Backstage – Madison Rayne & Miss Tessmacher get ready for their Knockouts Title match!

We come back to a video of the Gut Check competitor for this week.  I have NO idea who this guy is.  If anyone finds out, let me know.

Before the match begins, Brooke Hogan comes out and introduces her new referee, Taryn Terrell aka former WWE Diva Tiffany.

Match 3 – Knockouts Title Match – Madison Rayne © vs. Miss Tessmacher / Referee – Taryn Terrell

Not a horrible match overall, but it could’ve been a LOT better.  Rayne does everything she can to cheat her way to a win, but Terrell isn’t having any part of it, catching her every time she tries to cheat.  Thought, Terrell was billed as being this great official and I never saw that.  After arguing with Terrell, Rayne gets hit with the Tess-shocker (yes, that’s what her finisher’s called apparently) and we have a new Knockouts champion.  Winner – Miss Tessmacher / Grade – C

We come back to a recount of the Sting / Aces & Eights segments.  The group then shows up on screen again, saying that Sting has given them the invitation they’ve been looking for, telling to be careful what he wishes for, because he’s going to get it when the clock strikes 8.  Another member (who frankly looks like Brian Pillman, rest is soul) says that they have unfinished business to take care of tonight.

Match 4 – Bound for Glory Series – Bully Ray (48pts) vs. Jeff Hardy (35pts) / Referee – Earl Hebner

As promised, James Storm makes his way out to ringside just before the beginning of the match.  At one point Ray leaves the ring and confronts Storm, then pays for it as Hardy hits him with a baseball slide dropkick from inside the ring.  A pretty solid match over all with Ray dominating most of it with his power game and Hardy trying to use his quickness to counter.  Something that truly shocked me is Hardy hitting the Swanton Bomb on Ray, but Ray actually kicks out at two and then rolls out of the ring.  Storm stands back behind Ray until Hardy goes for a slingshot dive, Ray pulls James in front of him, causing Jeff to hit Storm.  Both men get back into the ring and Hardy levels Ray with a Whisper in the Wind.  Just then, Aces & Eights hit the ring and Hebner bails.  They look like they’re ready to attack Ray & Hardy, but out come Styles, Aries, Angle & Sting again to chase the group off.  Hebner gets back into the ring and the match continues.  Hardy hits a Twist of Fate on Ray, then gets a quick roll up for the pinfall win.  Winner – Jeff Hardy (42pts) / Grade – C+

Immediately after the pinfall, Ray levels Hardy with a clothesline as if he doesn’t realize the match is over.  Then when he realize he’s lost, he picks up his chain and blames Storm for his loss.  Storm gets into the ring, confronting Ray.  Ray shoves Storm, who then goes for a Last Call and lays out Hardy by mistake.  Ray then leaves the ring, saying it was always Storm.  As Storm looks down at Hardy, Aces & Eights hit the ring again, lining up behind Storm and clapping.  Storm turns around and the big man, levels James with a clothesline and we go off the air with the rest of the guys pounding on Storm.

Well, I guess Storm isn’t their leader after all.  Though, since I was sick last night, I actually watched this show live and chatted with some of the LOE Crew (Nikki, Miranda & Ace) and Nikki made a great point.  There’s one other person I don’t believe Aces & Eights have actually attacked, Bully Ray.  Could it be that the loudest accuser of Storm could in fact be the guy calling the shots?  I wouldn’t put it past him.  Show Grade – B-

Not a horrible edition of Impact, but I think they could still do a bit better.  I liked it better when Aces & Eights weren’t announcing they were going to come out and do something.  It made for a much more dramatic show when they’d randomly show up and attack out of nowhere.  Also, what was the damn point of having Tessmacher drop the belt at Hardcore Justice just to give the damn thing BACK to her on Impact four days later!?  It’s absolute crap if you ask me!  But then, that’s coming from a guy who’s an admitted Madison Rayne mark.

Thoughts about Bound for Glory series 2013

Last year I found the "BFG" series to be unpredictable.  The guy that should have been an odds on favorite (Samoa Joe) finished with negative points never having won a match in the series.  My money was on Matt Morgan thinking that while everyone else was picking Crimson it was too obvious.  When it came down to Roode vs Bully Ray I was excited because that meant 2 guys nobody thought would win was about to. 

So I'm looking at the participants this year and to just name a few I've noticed a pattern.  

James Storm

RVD

Mr. Anderson

Jeff Hardy

Kurt Angle

Samoa Joe

A.J. Styles

That's almost everybody and former world champions are all of them.  So here's an idea.  How about in 2013 we have this series with a bunch of guys that have never been world champion?  Imagine that exciting conclusion when two deserving guys that have never been the top of the food chain get to battle just for the opportunity to main event the biggest pay per view in the company?  Just a thought.
