SEEING GHOSTS | BECKETT & JANE @hcwlings
For too long, the man had been putting off buying some new clothes. Not particularly for money reasons. His job left him with a cushy savings account, but he liked to think of that as his rainy day fund. After his injury and the subsequent ruins of his soccer career, he had come to learn that nothing was permanent and he was comforted by the idea of having something to rely on, even if it was just the money in his bank account. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust that his friends would be by his side if anything, god forbid, happened to him, but he wouldn’t want to burden them. He preferred to strive through life depending on himself. If fact, he found it was more of a regular occurrence, helping his friends out, than it was him asking for a favour in return. But he preferred it that way. He was comfortable that way.
Outside of his gym clothes, or his tracksuit supplied by the university for his duties as assistance coach, Beck only really wore the same three shirts over and over again. He wasn’t a particularly fashion conscious man, and he found the recycling of the three shirts suited his style, and laundry efforts. But now, the articles of clothing were beginning to look a little thread bare, which told Beck it was time to stop by one of the many stores in Nashville to fill his closet again. _Or _buy another three shirts in order to start the cycle again. Rags didn’t tend to be socially acceptable - unless they were those jeans that the soccer players wore with rips purposely fashioned in them, he noted - and thus it was deemed a requirement to wear something people couldn’t see through.
After picking out the shirt in the best condition to wear, Beck headed downtown in search of a store that took his fancy. Really, he stopped in the first shop he saw, The Hanger, hoping to get the chore over and done with as soon as possible. Perusing through the rails and rails of clothing on offer, Beck stopped to simply stare at the things, half tempted to pick up the first shirt he had originally seen and be on his way.
