Intelligencer

Your status in life has put you in a position that law enforcement, politicians, and nobility alike find advantageous. You often find yourself on the periphery of powerful circles: close enough to hear and see all, but far enough removed to avoid suspicion. Your ability to remain inconspicuous means people often talk amongst themselves as if they were alone. You easily instill trust, meaning people drop their guard and spill their secrets.

Through circumstances not of your own design, you have been approached by someone with authority who wishes to use you as a means to gather information on those that surround you. You are no spy, but they ask that you always keep your ears open and report anything of interest that you hear. After all, gossip can be just as keen a weapon as a sword.

Perhaps your help will lead to the overthrow of a regime or allow a diplomat to better wheel and deal their way through tricky negotiations. Maybe your unintentional talents will allow law enforcement to stay ahead of future crime or thwart a plot that is currently brewing. The Intelligencer takes from the 5e backgrounds “City Watch/Investigator,” “Lord’s Alliance Vassal,” and “Courtier.” For those who are unfamiliar with Eliwyn’s full story, her father is one of the oversars of Baldur’s Gate and oversees the intelligence/investigation side of The Watch. Because of his high rank Eliwyn grew up rubbing elbows with the patriars. Eliwyn’s father used her position and her unassuming/trustworthy nature to keep tabs on the nobles (she even helped foil Valarken’s coup). Ulder Ravengard sought her help, too, to keep a pulse on the opinions of the Waterdhavian nobles while he navigated political negotiations to address the Crisis of Tiamat.

And of course, all of this is lifted straight from IRL history and the She-Intelligencers.

Like Maphra, Celeste doesn't write her own songs. She can sing and has an impressive voice, but she has never written songs of her own.

In a modern AU setting, a grunge or metal basement band would be fitting hobby for her, that accidentally takes off via social media.

There is no elaborate back story yet, as to why Celeste can sing, but doesn't compose. We'll get to that in the upcoming chapters of her memoir.

WIP Wednesday

Thank you @cep-stories for the tag! I just started writing Chapter 2 for FfD today so it's not ready in any way but here is what I have so far:

Context: The girls pull Gale out of a hole.

Word Count: 537 words

The malfunctioning sigil circle swirls in front of them, bursting with violet arcane energy.

Mina stares into vortex. Two things best known for spacing out meeting at last. Shadowheart tilts her head as she walks around the stone the ruined portal is attached to, trying to figure out what to do with what they see before them. Behind them comes the heaving of Hestia Balfour climbing up the hill from the crashed nautiloid.

"Hello!" came the voice inside the Weave circle: The one who claimed was in need of assistance, "I see there's three of you. Wonderful!"

"Oh", Hestia pants with her hands on her knees, "It's from in there."

An arm extends out from the portal, its sleeve covered in purple cloth. A shriek erupts from Hestia before quietly being put out.

"A hand? Anyone?" The arm waves politely.

Mina claps softly in response, looking around at Hestia and Shadowheart, who stare at her.

"Oh", Mina drops her arms as looks at the disembodied hand, "You mean you want me to pull you out?"

"That would be greatly appreciated", the arm gestures with its finger pointed up sternly, "I should have clarified: a helping hand?"

"Who are we talking to?" Shadowheart cuts in.

"Just a fellow traveller, who had a little trouble traversing the realms. Just pull me out, and we'll have time to explain."

Shadowheart and Hestia glance at each other.

"That's very suspicious. How… urgent you are.", Shadowheart raises an eyebrow.

"Yeah", Hestia nods, "Are you a wizard? You sound like a wizard. Suspicious."

"Yes, yes. You are spot on. I am indeed a wizard. A wizard in need of a couple of people to pull me out? Please?"

Mina shrugs at her party, "He's just a wizard."

She gingerly grips the hand with one arm and the other on the elbow, "You good? You comfortable?"

"Quite!" The arm grunted, "Quite the strong grip you have there. Though, I would suggest that you and your companions join forces. I assure you that I am very much stuck."

Mina looks back at her companions.

"I won't make a difference. I have sticks for arms", Hestia waves her stick arms around.

"Not to worry", the arm says, "Even sticks and stones may break my bones. Don't actually break my bones."

The three of them form a line in front of the sigil circle, Mina in front, Shadowheart in the middle, and Hestia the caboose.

"On 'one'", Mina orders.

"So 'three, two, one' on one?" Hestia asks for clarification. Mina nods.

Mina counts down. On one, the three women heave. Mina uses her arms, gripping the arm tightly as she steps backwards. Shadowheart does the same, holding onto Mina's waist. Hestia just tries to fall back.

"It's working!" The arm cries out, "Just a little more-"

Pop. A whole entire wizard lands on Mina Minos. As Mina and the wizard stare at each other, Mina could hear the disturbance of rocks and dirt and Hestia screaming further and further downhill.

"AAAOOHAAHAAAAAAAA", Hestia screams as she rolls down the hill, "...I'll be with you in a second."

Finally finished it! I had an idea for Arcane with short hair. Normally, in their femme form, they have very, very long hair, almost down to their ankles. And everyone knows that the best way to show character growth for a long-haired character is to cut it all off! Mwahahahahahaaaaa!!

I don't have it fully worked out just yet, but basically what happened was Orin kidnapped Gale, which of course drives Arcane to go on a brazen manhunt throughout the bowels of the Baldur's Gate, desperate to find their love before he's hurt. Orin despised Arcane's innocence. She hates that despite all their pain, all their losses, they refuse to be cruel or to inflict pain. As such, she's made it her personal mission to not only kill Arcane, but to make sure they suffer immensely before the end. One way she hurts them is by cutting off their beloved long hair.

Again, it's not fully fleshed out, but I kinda like the idea I have so far. I mostly just wanted an excuse to draw Arcane with cute, fluffy short hair, so I did. I think they look very cute!
