Skincare shenanigans

I feel like I might have identified my skin condition/type: dehydrated oily skin. Wow. I seriously thought only people with dry skin could suffer with dehydrated skin. I’m starting to rethink everything I’ve been taught about my skin, because up until recently I never gave thought to what type of the rest of my skin was. I think i might actually have dry skin. 

I’ve been a bit more diligent about developing a solid skincare routine. I’ve also switched things a bit and starting my routine as soon as I get home from work has been surprisingly exciting. Here’s a general setup of what I’ve been doing:

Oil cleanse to remove my makeup with hemp oil. I stopped using mineral oil because I feel like it’s been giving me closed comedones. Hemp oil is very gentle and I have a renewed love for removing my makeup with oil. It feels more natural than using mineral oil - as in, it feels better on my skin.

Wash my face with my Cerave cleanser, I believe I have the foaming cleanser. 

I recently started using a turmeric + honey face mask and I swear my closed comedones disappeared almost overnight the first time I used it. I try to leave it on as long as possible. Definitely longer than 15 - 20 minutes. I used to just use honey but the turmeric definitely takes it up a notch. I’ve noticed brighter looking skin and again, it helped clear my closed comedones.

I wash the mask off with warm water, and if my skin is slightly stained by the turmeric, I oil cleanse again with the hemp oil.

I use a Vitamin C serum, I’m not sure if I love the Vitamin C serum I currently have, but I’m sort of just using it until I finish it. I don’t think my skin has reacted badly to it. I got my Vitamin C serum from RainShadow Labs.

After Vitamin C, I use an anti-aging serum from RainShadow Labs. Again, not sure if I love this product yet. I really should wait 20 minutes or so between the Vitamin C and this serum, when I don’t I feel a slight tingling sensation on my cheeks despite using an occlusive afterwards.

I use my Cerave PM lotion. Love this stuff! It goes on smoothly, it almost feels like a face primer. Full of tons of good stuff for the skin like ceramides and niacinamide. 

I was a bit apprehensive of using petroleum jelly as an occlusive, but I took the plunge and used a light amount as a final step a few days ago. It was enough to leave me with a shiny face, and the next morning my skin had no new CC’s or any other negative reaction. The only thing was that sleeping on my back was quite uncomfortable and my boyfriend said it was difficult to sleep having to worry about my face, haha. 

Some days I try to use my Paula’s Choice 8% AHA, I’m not sure if this has done anything for my skin however. For a BHA, I used Stridex in the red box before but the pads always felt too wet on my face afterwards and took too long to dry. I currently don’t use a BHA.

What is Salicylic Acid?

Types 

Lactic Acid - this is the one that comes from milk. It's the most mild and non-irritating.

 Malic Acid - apples are great source for this 

 Glycolic Acid - this comes from sugar and is the most intense.
