In your comments about kim hyun joong, you said something happened to rain before. What was that?
He was caught abusing his privilege as a celebrity while he was in the army to meet up with his girlfriend, Kim Tae Hee. To an international fan, it may seem like a silly infraction; but because enlistment is mandatory, the standard civilian takes it as a serious offense when celebrities and elites try to work around the rules that everyone should follow. (I also think there was some grumbling at the way he kept putting off and putting off his enlistment date, too.)
But because of that, his celebrity status as a beloved icon of Korean entertainment took a serious hit (he was such a huge star), and even now, without any major controversies since (I don’t think?), he only has a fraction of the celebrity status he had before he left.
I just did a quick google, and found that soompi has a round-up here. Also here’s a CNN article (because, again, this was srs bzns news) about celebrities abusing their preferential treatment while enlistment, and the decision by the MoD to disband those types of “entertainment” divisions almost completely.
Since those types of infractions are so severely treated by the media, society, and netizens, I can only hope that, if it is indeed true, assaulting your girlfriend will incur even an more severe reaction. Which, again, makes me sad because I have long appreciated KHJ — but it’s just another reminder that the shiny side of the entertainment industry doesn’t show the “real” person (as much as we’d like to believe it with all the variety shows).
Edit: My original comments regarding KHJ can be found here.
