DRONE
The music played a continuous low noise. A solitary, uninterrupted tone that reverberated throughout Emily’s mind. It hummed in the deepest reaches of her brain. Massaging it into a slow, numbing compliance.
“Do you like the music, cos'?”
“H-huh?”
Emily startled, looking over at Heather peeking over her. Who was smiling a little too widely.
“O-oh, uh, yeah, it-it’s... it’s nice?” Emily replied nervously, adjusting the gigantic earphones to hear Heather better, “But it makes my—m-my head feels... funny? Is-is that normal...?"
This music was supposed to help with her anxiety, or so Heather claimed... But was it supposed to be this effective? She felt too calm, like it was trying to put her to sleep.
“Don’t worry about it. That’s TOTALLY normal!” Heather cooed yet pointedly pressed the earphones tighter to Emily’s head with both hands, keeping her from removing it, “That’s those, like, binaural beats. They’re supposed to make you feel really good~”
The sudden pressing down on Emily’s head, with both Heather’s hands, brough back the music tenfold. Nearly collapsing the heiress’s mind entirely. Still, the poor naïve woman tried to maintain a semblance of consciousness. For once, Heather was being nice to her. She didn’t want to be rude and fall asleep... didn’t she?
“Y...yeah...?” Emily absentmindedly spoke, “It does feel... n... nice...”
From above and behind Emily’s armchair, Heather grinned with wicked knowing. Keeping her hands firmly placed on either side of the headset.
“Mm-hmm~ It helps you relax sooo much easier, doesn’t it?” Heather grinned knowingly.
“Y...yeah...” Emily repeated, eyelids fluttering dazedly, “So... relaxing...”
“So soothing... So easy to let go. So easy to let it drone on as you drift away, don’t you?”
Heather murmured on and on. Watching with gleeful pride as poor Emily’s eyelids grew heaver and heaver. Her body slouching deeply into the plush armchair, her hands going limp over their resting places. Her jaw growing slack and listless. While those hazel green eyes became lifeless and dull.
“Drift...a ... w....way...” Emily sighed out in scarcely a whisper, eyes barely even open.
Heather couldn’t help letting a small snicker escape her. This was way too easy. Who knew this stupid, stuttering moron was so easy to hypnotize? This special music she brough really worked like a charm. Now, all she had to do was talk her into giving up her fortune, an—!
“Mind if I cut in?” A deeper voice sharply asked.
It didn’t sound like a request.
With a surprised cry, Heather jumped off and away from Emily. For seemingly out of nowhere Ace now stood immediately by her side. Looking none too pleased.
“A-A-Ace!” Heather stammered like a stupid, stuttering moron. Cheeks enflamed by this close
presence, “I-I-I w-was j-just—! We were j-just—!”
“Yeah, sure, whatever.” Ace flatly brushed her off, shouldering her roughly aside to reach over the armchair, “Move.”
Plucking the headset off his charge’s ear in one swift motion, Ace set Emily free. It took a second for her to recover. But Emily would fully awaken. Blinking rapidly with bewilderment, her once dulled green eyes coming back to full focus.
“...H-Huh? What?” She muttered, wiping the sleep from her eyes with a little yawn, “Oh... I’m sorry... did I fall asleep?”
Eventually, feeling his presence behind her, Emily would turn to see Ace leaning in close from above her. Arms crossed with his chin resting on them both. The sight making Emily blush with no small embarrassment.
“A-Ace!?”
“Hi Princess~” He grinned, giving a teasing wink.
Noting the thick headphones in his one hand, Emily then asked, “H—How long was I out for?”
“Not long. Don’t worry.” Ace casually reassured, coming around pointedly in front of Heather to offer Emily a hand of assistance.
Despite her bewilderment, Emily took the hand. Letting herself be helped to standing.
Ace continued, “Sorry to interrupt, but I do believe you got classes I need to escort you to...~?”
“What?! Oh my god!” Emily gasped in horrified realization, “What time is it?! I have a big test today! We gotta go!”
With that, Emily ran from the room in a panicked flurry. Leaving the dumbstruck Heather with a bemused Ace.
“But—wait! What about your hyp—I-I-I mean, your anxiety music?!” Heather finally yelled out after her, furious beyond belief, “HEY!”
Unbeknownst to the bratty young woman, Ace shot her an icy stare. One that could kill, if able. Then unexpectedly gave a slow, evil smirk.
“You know, Heather. Since you like it so much...” He started casually.
Coming around to behind Heather, he stretched out those big headphones wide and let them snap hard over her head.
“...You try them.”
“OW! HEY! That—!” Heather shrieked, whipping around to give Ace a hell’s worth of grief for it, “...th...that...that’s...uh...”
Except, she never did. For no sooner were those headphones over Heather’s ears, that she was gone. Out. Braindead to the world. The music droned intensely through her ears and straight into her soft, easily pliable brain. One that was far too weak to resist. Her words trailed off, her body went limp in a goofy way, her green eyes wobbled up and down unevenly, and her jaw were slack. Even drool had already begun to dribble past her lips. As her arms dangle dumbly downwards, making her double over herself in a silly way.
“Uhhhhhhhhh....” She droned on, half-lidded eyes blanky staring off with no real objective.
Ace couldn’t help blinking slowly with a flat, stunned expression with how easily Heather went under. Shaking his head at her, shoving both hands in his suit trousers, he started walking off to find his ward.
“Dumb bitch...” He muttered, pausing only to go back and poke Heather’s forehead.
She, for her part, folded effortlessly. The simple action making her fall over entirely with unceremonious grace. Now left a mindless, drooling messing on the floor with her ass sticking up in the air.
Ace blinked hard.
His tongue clicked, “Wow.”
Then he left. He felt a tiny bit bad leaving Heather like that. Maybe he’ll take them off later. Maybe.
“Ace! Where are you?!” Emily voice cried out, coming closer, “We really gotta go!”
...Nah. She deserved it. Trying that bullshit on Emily.
“Coming~” Ace replied in a sing-song voice.
Grinning like a Cheshire cat, he walked out of the library towards Emily and they headed off. Leaving Heather to a mindless state of bliss for an indefinite amount of time.
(Also one incredibly sore neck.)
“What were you doing, Ace?”
“...You know, Princess, sometimes you make my job a little harder than it needs to be~”
“Ehh?? Wh—what? Wh-what d-does that mean?!”
“Heh. Don’t worry about it~”
