The first time Henry walks in on Alex sat in an unusual position, he doesn’t question it. Alex is laid on the sofa with his legs slanted and hanging over the back. He’s scrolling on his phone, singing along to The Killers album that is spinning in the record player. He looks up at Henry, an upside down grin on his face.
‘Hi baby, you okay?’
Henry smiles and nods and heads to the kitchen for an afternoon tea as he planned.
After a few more months in the Brownstone together, Henry starts to notice a pattern. Sitting sideways on the sofa, one leg crossed and the other down. Elbows on the arm, knees on the seat, barely what would qualify as sitting.
When Henry comes in to find Alex practically being eaten by the sofa, he decides he finally has to say something.
‘Okay, I must ask. How on earth is that comfortable?’
Alex looks up at Henry, his eyelashes framing his innocent gaze and looks back down at himself. One leg is hanging on top of the couch, one hangs off it. His left side is twisted inwards, his left arm lost feeling probably twenty minutes before. His right arm had been holding his book above his head.
‘Just is, I guess. I don’t really plan it.’
‘That wasn’t obvious at all…’ Henry crosses his arms over his chest.. Alex gains a bit of fight in his eyes and starts to straighten up, although his arm takes a bit of coaxing.
‘Hey, you knew this going into this relationship, Henry.’
Henry shakes his head fondly and starts to walk to the kitchen. Alex kneels on the couch cushions and calls out after him.
‘It’s my right as a bisexual to sit this way!’
