A vintage ad for the original GTO. A very nice action oriented ad to be sure.

But...once again, the adxecs have fallen short of the goal. ( or maybe they did it on purpose? ) Its kinda hard to tell the exact year, but since I had this very same looking car lets go with 1967.

During that time, there was a big movement by both the consumer and the factories to go faster in cars and to do that, the factories were bowing to the consumers and installing larger and larger engines. The one I had was powered by the ‘small’ 400 cid, 4 barrel carb engine.  At 335 hp, back in the day, that was pretty fast in anyones book. YET, people wanted more, so the factory gave the option of a HO (high output) engine that was just a bit under 400 hp. Add some plain jane stock hubcaps and set up a bank account for your Sleeper.

Back to the ad. They show the GTO in action on a dirt back road somewhere as one of lifes ‘Great Moments’. That is definitely not where it was most appreciated. It would rarely be found bouncing around on a pothole filled rutted country dirt road.

NosireeeBob, one of life's ‘great moments’ was when your shutting down the local speed demon who drove a Mustang or picking up $50.00 for a win on a side road, the loser in in his Camaro, him not happy. The GTO was really appreciated for its power on the street. As in Main Street USA. Stoplight to stoplight and on the weekends, on the dragstrip.

So, why the dirt road staging?  I am not sure of course, the only one that really knows is they adxec that made the ad, yet I think....if the insurance companies saw how the car was ‘really’ used, well, you know insurance companies....( $$$ )  Just sayin....

Still..that was a fun car for more innocent times.
