I'm working on the big fic right now, and I'm once again running into the issue of writing dialogue for Ludwig in English. In German, I have the speech patterns pretty much down for him; the slightly-less-formal-than-expected tone of someone who's been in the army for a long time, specific words and phrases for violence (abfackeln erschlagen krepieren mord-und-totschlag), all the military language and soldier-speak and the ability to switch into government-approved formal german to a degree that's both uncomfortable and nearly gibberish if you don't interact with it regularly. But I can't translate these choices into English 1-to-1 because they wouldn't exist in the same context that makes them make sense in German, and my feel for the English language isn't the same as a native speaker's.

What sparked this train of thought is that I had to write him say Fuck when he should be calling Gilbert Maulscheißer or something to that effect

Its happening! Today is the day I shall be free! One more beta, one more reread and round of edits, and THERE SHALL BE SWEETNESS. Things will be dark and heartbreaking in the future, but at least they’ll never be like that again.

Okay this is a real long shot and I don't think it was on any of the main FF sites (could be wrong). It was very huge myth level story telling and my clearest memory of the fic is the doctor and rose being ancient and staring out at this planet/town with all their descendents at the end of the fic, maybe from a cave or mountain? Maybe about to chose to die? Even if this fic is gone if someone knows what it was I would be so grateful it's felt like a fever dream for years. I think it was long too
