Newsflash! The manipulative liar you fell in love with is a consent king in bed.
I know we're all calling out Little Jane for being colorblind and being outrageously naive about the clear red flags Big Jane is just throwing around, but I think Little Jane's reactions to what Big Jane is doing is all part of the manipulation.
Like, Little Jane already knows what happens when he says no, or denies Big Jane in any way, which is Big Jane with holding affection and cutting off emotionally from Little Jane, and so Little Jane feels he has to make up for setting his own boundaries.
The biggest, and I think most formative for this dynamic, is when Little Jane gives his friend's gift to Big Jane, who then got upset and completely vanished from Little Jane's life. Little Jane then went completely off the rails and was desperate to see Big Jane again.
We see this played out on a smaller scale during the piano scene, when Big Jane gets angry at Little Jane not wanting to rush into a relationship. Big Jane reacts to being denied by cutting off any emotional intimacy, going completely cold and locking Little Jane out, who then feels the need to bridge the gap. He meets Big Jane halfway, with the just-talking phase of the relationship, which brings Big Jane's sweetness and affection back.
