So, GOOD NEWS on the holiday craft project for my folks: I was not insane and dreaming of something beyond my ken out of excitement, it can be done by me. Thus, I shall explain what it is: a wire sculpture that looks like a branch, with faux flowers on it and silver leaves.

I used modeling wire, the type you use to internally support a clay model, as the internal support, and reinforced the littler “branch offs” with heavier duty floral wire. Now I’m using a shitton of silver and copper floral and wreath wire to wrap this bad boy. I am already over 150ft of wire in. Just wrap wrap wrap in different ways. And be glad I have glasses as eye protections because sometimes it tries tow hip out of my hand and gets close to my face. Still, 3.5 hours of labor later (well, labor while watching TV) I can confirm this WILL be a thing. More likely by Xmas, hopefully won’t need until the last day of Hanukkah instead but whatever works, works. Thankfully Grandma’s Hanukkah present is already done so this can get total focus.

The flowers and leaves go last, they’re just purchased. I knew the wire would take so long that trying to make them might just drive me to a panic attack, so we went the easier route there. Thankfully for whatever reason the four big bronze flowers were Christmas Stems, and thus on sale (as were the silver leaves, less of a surprise there) so only the three ivory flowers hit the pocketbook at full price. Still, it’s coming together!

All I'm reading is people getting clothes, jewelry, cameras, Kanken backpacks, and a range of other big expensive gifts. Is this normal? Do all people get these kinds of gifts? Have I somehow missed that?
