Finally! @minewtbang is living up to the name and holding our first ever Minewt Big Bang! If you’re ready to create some serious stuff for your favorite Gladers, read the FAQ below and sign up today ^__^
What is a Big Bang?
A Big Bang is an event where writers create a long piece fanfiction and artists (this includes editors, fanmixers, etc.) collaborate with them to produce art based on that story. The purpose is to encourage cooperation and a multimedia experience while also flooding the fandom with more works.
When is the Minewt Big Bang?
Sign ups open on July 17th and the bang ‘officially’ begins on August 1st, when writer sign ups close. It runs until November 30th, which is the deadline for sharing completed works.
How can I participate?
There are four ways that you can participate: As a writer, an artist, a beta reader, or a pinch hitter.
The job of the writer is to produce a new, complete, edited stand alone work of at least 10,000 words. The fic can be a sequel or a prequel, but it must be able to stand on its own, and it must be completed by November 30th.
The job of the artist is to produce at least one high quality piece of art for the chosen fic. This means one piece of inked and colored digital or traditional art, a full page comic, a gif set, a fanmix with album art, a fanvid etc. Like the work of the writer, we expect a new, complete, and polished work, not sketches or WIPs. Again, the piece must be completed by November 30th.
The job of the beta reader is to assist the writer in the writing process by offering feedback and assisting in the technical aspects of writing. A beta reader will help the writer by providing feedback and offering suggestions to improve certain aspects of the story, as well as assisting in copyediting (spelling, grammar, formatting, etc.). Writers may have difficulty editing their own work, so the duties of a beta reader are critical to the production of polished pieces of writing.
The final way to participate is as a pinch hitter. A pinch hitter can be either an artist or a beta reader, and will step in if another artist or beta reader cannot fulfill their duties. The expectations here are similar to the regular roles of artists and beta readers, but there would be a reduced period of time in which to work.
Does the work have to include anything?
Outside of the minimum word count/art expectations, the piece must, of course, include Minho and Newt in a romantic relationship. There is no limit to genre, themes, style, universe, etc., but minewt must be the main romantic pairing of the piece. Other romantic pairings are allowed, including those which feature either Minho or Newt, but we ask you to remember that this is Minewt Big Bang, and they’re who we’re here to celebrate.
How do I sign up?
Please fill out this Google form with all the required information.
What if I need to drop out/I can’t do it/My mom/dad/grandma/goldfish/lawnmower dies?
Please contact us as soon as possible if you aren’t going to be able to complete your work, especially if artist/writer matches have gone out. We won’t think less of you for dropping out, but it’s important that we give as much time as possible to a pinch hitter/to reassign an artist/beta, so don’t delay.
What if I have an artist/writer I want to work with?
We are a small fandom, and we’re keeping the sign up/selection process as anonymous and random as possible.
Can I post pieces/previews/drafts of the work before the posting date?
Please don’t. You can share your work with your partner(s), but otherwise keep it under wraps. Additionally, you will be expected to send the work to mods during the check ins.
Huh? Check ins?
Yes, check ins! We want this Big Bang to be as smooth and successful as possible, and so we want to make sure everyone is staying on top of their project. During the check in periods, you will send a mod a draft of your work, so that we can assure that everything is moving along. If you fail to contact us, we will contact you near the end of each check in week. If you then fail to respond and give a progress update, we will consider your position abandoned and reassign your partners as possible.
I’m going to be out of town/hunting Pokemon/off the grid during check in/sign ups/posting!
Contact us. We’ll figure something out to make it work.
