You say the same thing Jon is. There’s too much actually raw awful shit going on the the world at large to worry about who’s gonna get offended at a dumb word. Shit, next thing you know they’ll say no one can say ‘cucumber’ without being crucified.
The primary problem is you're equating calling someone a "cucumber" (a positively Gavin-istic insult, if anything) to calling someone "retarded" (a word used for a long time to defame and dehumanize those with mental disabilities). You're comparing apples and...well, cucumbers, here.
The secondary problem is that yeah, there's some pretty major shit going down in the rest of the world but that doesn't just make what individuals do null and void. Jon's got a preeeeetty sizeable and likely impressionable subscriber base who are gonna follow and listen to what he's saying and think "oh well if he says this it's funny and also okay!". You've gotta be fuckin' careful when you've got a large area of influence, and that is exactly not what he is doing.

I really wish it were that easy. Like, it's a lot easier to watch an anime or some other show created/written/whatever by some shitty person (as long as the content is, y'know, enjoyable) or listen to good music by people whose morals are way off-base from your own because there's a degree of separation there
but with Jon, his content is literally just...him. that's it. and that makes this all incredibly difficult to stomach. bluh.
