Bear is trending - no small shakes - particularly after being kept in a storage locker somewhere for over a decade. So satisfying to see the colorful gang out there and being appreciated again. This was the first idea for the Bear Logo - a big bear paw print in a big house - I liked the purity of it and it fit with the idea that Bear was a bear a bit wild not that he’d go wild but that he was still an animal. The final Bear logo was more refined and a bit more understandable and it served the series well. More unsung heroes and contributors to Bear in the Big Blue House. Absolutely none more important than Bennie Kombol he’s the guy in the middle between me and Bear and Doc Hogg during a very tense stand-off on the set. It’s no small secret regarding the situation with Doc Hogg and Bear. Doc had a few quirks that sometimes created on set chaos. He had this habit of finishing everyone’s sentences that on occasion created some frustration. Bennie had a preternatural calming, even soporific, presence that was just one of the great contributions he made to the production. His design for the Big Blue House was essential - the house was considered another character by kids who watched - without Cabot we wouldn’t have had Luna and Bear’s chats and song. There are many unsung heroes and creative contributors to Bear in the Big Blue House none more important than Paul Andrejco. He designed all the characters for Bear. Before Bear no one thought a walk around could be expressive and warm and talk into the camera and make meaningful eye contact. Of course it took Noel MacNeal to make his design come to life.
