Nitish Kumar Meets PM Modi After Bihar Assembly Landslide Victory
In a significant political development, Nitish Kumar meets PM Modi in New Delhi more than a month after the NDA’s sweeping victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. The meeting, described by JD(U) leaders as a courtesy call, reflected growing coordination between the Centre and the newly strengthened Bihar government following its historic mandate.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and JD(U) leader and Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, popularly known as Lalan Singh. The leaders met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital, where discussions focused broadly on Bihar’s development trajectory and national issues, without any fixed agenda.
Centre–State Coordination After NDA’s Historic Mandate
This meeting comes in the backdrop of the NDA securing 202 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, marking one of the strongest mandates in the state’s political history. According to senior JD(U) sources, this was the first election in Bihar where the NDA released a common manifesto, raising expectations of stronger coordination between the state and the Centre.
Prime Minister Modi reportedly praised Nitish Kumar for his long-standing administrative contributions to Bihar and highlighted the Centre’s role in accelerating infrastructure and development projects across the state. The Bihar CM, in turn, emphasised the need for continued central support to fulfil the promises made in the joint manifesto.
Focus on Jobs, Welfare and Development Vision
An important indirect takeaway from the meeting was the Bihar government’s renewed push towards employment generation. JD(U) leaders indicated that the state is working towards the ambitious goal of creating one crore jobs, with special emphasis on schemes like the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rozgar Yojana, aimed at improving women’s workforce participation.
Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary later shared details of the meeting on social media, calling it a courtesy interaction with what he described as the “world’s most popular leader.” He noted that valuable guidance was received on shaping the roadmap for a “developed Bihar” under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi.
Political Significance of Samrat Choudhary’s New Role
The meeting also assumes importance as Samrat Choudhary has recently been assigned charge of Bihar’s Home Ministry, a portfolio traditionally retained by the Chief Minister. BJP sources revealed that discussions included administrative priorities such as police reforms, firm action against land, sand, and liquor mafias, and steps to address encroachment issues across the state.
Party leaders dismissed speculation surrounding Nitish Kumar’s health and ongoing media narratives, stressing that the NDA remains united and focused on governance. According to BJP insiders, the alliance’s immediate priority is to respect the overwhelming public mandate delivered under Nitish Kumar’s leadership.
Separate Meeting With Amit Shah Strengthens NDA Messaging
Before meeting the Prime Minister, Nitish Kumar and his delegation also held talks with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence. Shah later stated that under the joint leadership of Modi and Nitish, the NDA government is committed to taking public welfare, law and order, and governance standards in Bihar to new heights.
Sources clarified that controversial issues, including recent public debates surrounding the Chief Minister, were not part of these discussions, which remained focused on governance, development, and administrative efficiency.
A Clear Signal of Stability in Bihar Politics
Taken together, these high-level meetings signal a phase of political stability and strategic alignment between Bihar and the Centre. As the NDA consolidates power after its landslide victory, expectations remain high that coordinated governance will translate into tangible improvements in infrastructure, employment, and public welfare across the state.
For Bihar, this moment represents not just a political milestone, but an opportunity to redefine its development narrative with strong Centre State cooperation.
