A moment of solace in her car was necessary, especially in a town where it was impossible to ever just have some peace and quiet. Although she had been given some time to mourn her father, there were still so many thoughts and emotions rushing through her head. Sometimes, on her way home, she would pull over somewhere less than public and just breathe. Tonight, Caroline was on her way to the Grill when she’d needed to pause. Her timing? It couldn’t have been more perfect.
A familiar face stepped out of a car and began to walk inside, and Caroline’s heart began thumping (as one would when a childhood crush walked past). Ezra Gilbert, Elena’s older brother had returned to town. Using her rearview mirror to make sure her cheeks weren’t tearstained, Caroline removed the keys from the ignition and made her way inside, glancing around and trying to spot him.
