Meet new sewing pattern <Kaneel> Moto jacket perfect for your next sewing challenge!
I’m excited to introduce a new item from Waffle Patterns! Meet my new sewing pattern, Moto jacket <Kaneel>.
This is everyone’s staple biker style jacket with versatile design and details. It’s perfect for your next sewing challenge!
This Kaneel moto jacket has fitted silhouette with front zipper open and stand collar, features moto jacket inspired cool details like various designs of zipper pockets or 2 parts sleeve with darts.
<length options> There are 3 options for the length; short(straight hem), short(shorter back hem) and long version.
This wine red coloured sample shows the shorter back hem version(Short A). I like this design because it has very biker’s jacket-ish look and easy to coordinate with both pants and skirt. The sample with cream melange colour is the long length version. As moto jackets, short length is more standard, but if you want to make a general sporty jacket, this will be the option.
<pocket options> There are one chest pocket and 2 side zipper pockets and you can choose with or without welt. I think showing metal zipper teeth without welt makes more moto jacket-ish look. But we often cannot find perfect coloured zippers and neither did I. So the wine red sample shows a chest pocket without welt and side zipper welt pockets.
The Long version has one more option for the side pocket. The cream coloured sample has zipper seam side pockets. (I’m planning to post a tutorial how to sew zipper seam pocket)
<fabric> Since the design is very fitted, I recommend to use fabrics with small elastane like stretch faux leather/denim/ or gabardine. I made 4 samples and the stretch percentage was 7~20%.
If you want to sew with non stretch fabric or very thick fabric, or intend to wear it in cold winter on thick sweaters, please consider to adjust the pattern or choose a bigger size.
The lining has ease for fitting, so I used normal woven lining and it seems no problem. But if you use very stretchy fabric, taking stretch type lining will be better.
The wine red sample is stretch faux leather and the stretch percentage is 15-20%. The cream one is faux leather with flannel backing with about 7% stretch.
I also made with softshell fabric (about 7% stretch) and light neoprene (over 50% stretch). (no photo here. sorry) For the neoprene I should choose one size smaller. The same size as others is too big.
The sewing pattern includes the lining pattern, too. All the sewing process are described with detailed illustrations.

From Helmets to Gloves: A Guide to Smart Biking Accessories
Riding a motorcycle isn’t just about the thrill of the road—it’s also about staying safe, comfortable, and stylish. Whether you're a seasoned rider or a beginner, the right accessories can make all the difference in your biking experience. From helmets to gloves, here’s your ultimate guide to smart biking accessories that every rider should consider.
1. Helmets: Your First Line of Defense
A biker's helmet is not just an accessory; it’s a necessity. Investing in a high-quality helmet can protect you from serious injuries while enhancing your overall riding experience. Look for helmets with proper certifications, adjustable ventilation, and a comfortable fit. Full-face helmets are a great choice for maximum safety and wind protection, while modular helmets offer versatility for different riding conditions.
Pro Tip: Choose a helmet with anti-fog visors for clear vision in all weather conditions.
2. Gloves: Grip and Protection at Your Fingertips
Riding gloves are essential for maintaining a firm grip on the handlebars while protecting your hands from wind, rain, and potential injuries. Opt for motorcycle gloves made from durable materials like leather or reinforced synthetic fabrics. For winter rides, thermal or heated gloves are a lifesaver, keeping your hands warm and flexible.
Pro Tip: Look for gloves with touchscreen-compatible fingertips for convenience on the go.
3. Jackets: A Perfect Blend of Style and Safety
A good motorcycle jacket does more than just make you look cool—it provides crucial protection. Choose jackets with built-in armor for your shoulders, elbows, and back. Materials like leather and textile blends are popular for their durability and comfort. Waterproof jackets are ideal for riders who brave unpredictable weather.
Pro Tip: Reflective detailing on jackets enhances visibility during night rides.
4. Boots: The Foundation of a Safe Ride
Motorcycle boots offer more than just foot protection. They provide ankle support, slip resistance, and protection against hot exhaust pipes. Choose boots with reinforced toes, oil-resistant soles, and weatherproof materials to keep your feet safe and dry on every ride.
Pro Tip: Break in your boots before long rides to avoid discomfort.
5. Accessories for Your Bike: Enhancing the Experience
Smart biking isn’t just about personal gear—it’s also about equipping your motorcycle with the right accessories. Consider adding these to your bike:
Crash Protectors: To safeguard your bike in case of falls.
Saddlebags: For convenient storage during long trips.
Phone Mounts: For easy navigation on the road.
LED Lights: To improve visibility and add a stylish touch.
6. Rain Gear: Stay Dry and Keep Riding
Weather can be unpredictable, but that shouldn’t stop you. Invest in high-quality rain gear, including waterproof pants and jackets, to stay dry without compromising mobility.
Pro Tip: Compact rain gear that fits in your saddlebag ensures you're always prepared.
7. Earplugs: Protect Your Hearing
Long rides can expose you to wind noise that may damage your hearing over time. Earplugs are a simple yet effective accessory to reduce noise while still allowing you to hear important sounds, like traffic or communication devices.
Why Smart Accessories Matter
Smart biking accessories are not just about safety—they enhance your comfort, convenience, and overall experience on the road. By investing in the right gear, you’re not only protecting yourself but also ensuring that every ride is as enjoyable and hassle-free as possible.
Conclusion
From helmets to gloves, each accessory plays a critical role in creating a safe and stylish riding experience. Whether you’re gearing up for a cross-country adventure or a quick city commute, having the right accessories makes all the difference. Explore premium biking gear at Bike Wear Direct and equip yourself for the journey ahead.
Ride smart, stay safe, and enjoy the road like never before!
From the Road to the Rack: Proper Storage Tips for Men's Textile Jackets
Men's textile jackets are a staple for any motorcyclist or adventurer. They offer comfort, protection, and style on every ride. However, to keep these jackets in top condition, proper storage is essential. Whether you’re hanging it up after a quick ride or putting it away for the off-season, these tips will help ensure your jacket remains as good as new.
1. Clean Before You Store
Dirt, grime, and sweat can degrade the fabric and lining of your jacket over time. Before storing your textile jacket, give it a thorough clean:
Spot Cleaning: Use a damp cloth to wipe away visible dirt. Avoid harsh detergents that can damage the material.
Deep Cleaning: For a more intensive clean, check the care label. Many textile jackets can be hand-washed or cleaned with mild soap and water. Always rinse thoroughly.
Dry Completely: Never store a jacket when it’s damp. Allow it to air dry completely in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.
2. Choose the Right Hanger
The wrong hanger can distort the shape of your jacket, especially around the shoulders. Use a wide, padded hanger to maintain its structure. Avoid wire hangers as they can leave permanent marks on the fabric.
3. Store in a Cool, Dry Place
Extreme temperatures and humidity can damage textile jackets. Follow these guidelines:
Avoid Damp Areas: Basements and attics are prone to moisture, which can lead to mold and mildew.
Temperature Control: A closet in a cool, dry room is ideal for storage.
Away from Sunlight: Prolonged exposure to sunlight can fade colors and weaken the fabric.
4. Use a Garment Bag
For long-term storage, consider using a breathable garment bag. Unlike plastic covers, fabric bags allow air circulation, which helps prevent odors and moisture buildup. This extra layer also protects the jacket from dust and accidental scuffs.
5. Avoid Folding
Folding your textile jacket can cause creases that are hard to remove. If you must fold it for space-saving purposes, ensure it’s folded loosely and not compressed. Place acid-free tissue paper between folds to reduce pressure marks.
6. Inspect Periodically
If your jacket is in storage for an extended period, check on it occasionally. Look for signs of mold, pests, or any fabric damage. Giving it a quick airing out can also help keep it fresh.
Bonus Tip: Keep Accessories Organized
If your textile jacket comes with detachable liners, armor, or hoods, store these items together. Use a labeled storage box or pouch to keep everything in one place. This way, you won’t have to hunt for missing pieces when it’s time to ride.
Why Proper Storage Matters
Taking a few extra steps to store your textile jacket properly can make a big difference. Not only will it last longer, but it will also look and feel great every time you put it on. Treat your jacket like the investment it is, and it will continue to serve you well on every journey.
