going by a sioux name while being navajo/saami is like going by a chinese name when you're vietnamese. yes, both groups are east asian and similar (and in your case, native), but the individual cultures still have differences, including names.
i also want u to realize tht names r meddled through time tho. my navajo grandmothers given name is 100% of cherokee origin. i have a friend whose name is of Mapuche (well-known, but not a super big name mind you) origin, while shes full blown Apache. bc we’re so thinned out it’s really hard for it to matter when it’s intra community as long as the name doesn’t have religious ties or interferes with tradition. comparing it to cultures tht are still thriving is pretty unfair and simplifies the issue way 2 much.
