Bill Dixon / Judith Dunn Group - Part 1: Suite Pomegranate In Six Movements, Newport Jazz Festival, Newport, Rhode Island, July 2, 1966
Via Observations of Deviance, here’s something I’ve been listening to a lot over the past month or so — Bill Dixon and co. on a Saturday morning at the Newport Jazz Festival back in 1966, performing some kind of American elegy. It feels even more powerful and relevant today, when this weird, utterly fucked-up country seems on the verge of total self-destruction. But it’s also absolutely beautiful, so at last there’s that. Who else could you have seen in Newport that year? Nina Simone, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and many many more.
