Bill Mulkey (NWA '83)
2022 Wrestling Authentic Signature
The Road Warriors vs. Bill & Randy Mulkey (NWA Pro December 20, 1986)
A five star mat classic right here between The Road Warriors and The Mulkey Brothers. With Mulkeymania runnin’ wild have Hawk and Animal finally met their match?
Randy and Bill Mulkey
Bill and Randy Mulkey square off with the Gladiators on NWA television circa April 1987! If you watched the NWA during the '80s, you probably remember the Mulkeys for taking some of the worst beatings ever seen on a Saturday morning! This match is noteworthy because it is probably the only time these two have ever won a match! The Gladiators were longtime jobbers George South and Gary Royal under the mask, but obviously we weren't supposed to know that. For all we knew, this was a new tag team making their NWA debut with several weeks of hype behind them! This match was to determine who would enter the second Jim Crockett, Sr. Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament! "War Machine" by KISS blares over the PA and the Gladiators storm the ring like they are the Road Warriors! They attack the Mulkeys without mercy! Everything goes awry when one of the Gladiators hoists Bill Mulkey up for a bodyslam! He doesn't notice Randy down on the mat behind him! He trips over Randy and falls to the mat with Bill on top of him in a pinning position! The referee counts three and the crowd goes wild! Announcer David Crockett can't believe it! The Gladiators can't believe it! Hell, neither can the Mulkeys! Things went back to normal at the Crockett Memorial Cup when Bill and Randy lost in the opening round to the New Breed, but let's not think about that right now! We should instead revel in this feel-good moment for out of shape mullet-headed losers everywhere!
Start your day off right with Bad News Brown making mincemeat out of perennial NWA jobber Bill Mulkey! I'm almost certain that I saw this match on TV back in 1989; I seem to recall being stoked that Bill Mulkey made it to the big time. What can I say? I loved watching him and his brother Randy get stomped every weekend! I thought they could stand to branch out and get beaten by everybody else too! Bad News Brown was another legit tough guy wrestler who I wanted to see utilized more. I guess he did have main event runs against Randy Savage and/or Hulk Hogan, but I have yet to see any of those matches. Actually, I'm not sure if I've ever seen Bad News wrestle a competitive match in the WWF! I sure loved watching him dispatch jobbers with his "Ghetto Blaster" finishing move, which was a jumping enzuigiri out of the Antonio Inoki playbook. He also talked a whole lot of shit and sounded like he meant it when he said he was gunning for the Macho Man at the Royal Rumble this Sunday. The hard man from Harlem was an angry loner whose hatred was indiscriminate. Although nothing ever seemed to make him happy, a weekend without a Bad News Brown ass-kicking was like a weekend without sunshine.
