When Canada passed Bill C-3, most of the conversation focused on policy. But something else happened that caught a lot of people off guard, especially in English Canada. They realized…there are a lot of Franco-Americans.
I grew up fully aware of my French Canadian ancestry. My grandmother (or Grammy as she preferred) didn't speak english until she was 10. And as I have been documenting my linage in hopes of re-establishing and being recognized as a Canadian citizen - I learned a LOT more about that history. My Grammy and her brother and sister, were born in one of those 'little Canada's' located in Maine. Their Grandparents being the generation that was pushed out of Canada in one of the many waves against the French colonies by the English colonies of what is now Canada.
