in each foster home before, he has tried to be a shadow to whoever was the patriarch or matriarch of the family. while some had tolerated it for a while, most insisted on him going to play other games, going outside, doing something else other then the constant quiet vigilance he kept. some of them yelled, some of them pushed him away.
but after a short time of doing this, he knew what kind of house he was in, and what was best to keep under the radar after being directly in it. here now, however, he follows oliver around because he wants to. no longer looking for the best ways to hide himself but instead to bond with his now father figure.
he’s quiet as the man does things to the bow n’ arrow he doesn’t quiet understand -- cleaning it, maybe. behind him, arlo makes as though he’s shooting it, pew pew pewing at all the imaginary bad guys. he makes a show of diving under the table, and then rolls out shooting probably about a hundred arrows per minute, if anyone asked.
when oliver turns to look at him, he stops moving, but he smiles. “ i’m the hero. “
