Meant to be - Chapter two
- Fuck! We’re late! – David yelled when we got in his car next morning.
- If you would have woken me up at six, maybe…
- If you would have been willing to wake up at six…
- Okay, shut up and drive! I need an extra large coffee before getting into a fight with you – I mumbled.
About 20 minutes later David parked the car in the big garden. There was nobody in the studio, we were the first to arrive. I’d never been there before. Not that I visited the older studios so often, but still.
- David, it’s beautiful! – I whispered. I was amazed. It was really beautiful. Harmonic, organized and friendly.
- The guys will be here in an hour. I told them to arrive at 9.
- Oh… and what are we going to do now?
- I’ll bring us some coffee. And you could sing me something.
- We will be alone until 9, sure?
- Sure – he rolled his eyes.
- Of course you will – he smirked and left.
While he was gone I was looking around. There were instruments and pictures everywhere. Pictures from the last 9 years. My jaw hit the floor. Georg didn’t change at all even though he has shorter hair now. Gustav either. But the twins... Incredible. At first sight I couldn’t tell who is Bill and who is Tom. I guess Bill’s change is the biggest. He looked different in every picture. Blond hair, black hair, short hair, long hair, beard, piercings, make-up, no make-up... Basically he stayed loyal to his unique and extravagant style, but still… He must be a very interesting person. The thing about Tom is that he became a really handsome young man. This long, dark brown hair and beard fit him so much. And he got way more muscular.
- Here is your coffee – I heard David’s voice behind me.
- They’re not kids anymore – he smiled.
- So… will you sing finally? What do you think why I brought you here?
- Okay, just leave me alone - I laughed.
I drank my coffee and went to the vocal booth. I sang him some of my songs. I used to write songs but when my mother died I stopped. I couldn’t write a single word anymore.
- Your voice is still amazing, Viki – he smiled at me. – Why didn’t you want to sing?
- You know… I haven’t sung since mom passed away. I haven’t written any songs since that day. I couldn’t. It feels so… strange now.
- No. Actually it’s good. But I thought it would be terrible. That’s why I tried to refuse it.
- Would you continue? For my sake – he smiled gently.
- Of course – I smiled back and started to sing another song.
I totally forgot about time and space. I was just singing with my eyes closed. It felt so good. When I opened my eyes I saw four guys staring at me with curiosity in their eyes. Bill, Tom, Georg and Gustav, of course. I looked at my watch. It was quarter past 9. I felt my face turning beet red. I slowly put down my microphone and went out. David grabbed my hand and pulled me closer.
- Finally! Guys, she’s Viki, my niece – he stroked my back.
- We’ve heard a lot about you – Tom smirked and raised his eyebrows.
- Good to know – I said ironically. I liked him already. He was much more handsome than in those pictures.
- I’m Bill – he smiled at me friendly. His voice dragged me back to reality. I slowly looked at him. His long, blond hair was up in a messy ponytail. There were piercings in his ear, eyebrow and lower lip. He didn’t wear any make-up and I noticed he didn’t have the nose piercing I’d seen in some pictures. I never thought I’d ever say that but he looked fine. Just like his brother.
- It’s nice to meet you – I smiled back and shook his hand. His skin was very light and soft. I almost let go of him when I noticed his hand tattoo. – Oh! Your tattoo!
- Do you like it? – he looked at me with a smile on his face.
- Of course! It’s amazing.
- Bang, bang, bang! Bill is trying to get all the attention again! How surprising! – Tom shouted. Bill, Gustav, Georg and David started to laugh.
After I shook hands with Georg and Gustav too, they started working. They listened to the songs over and over again and if they didn’t like a part, they tried to change it into something better. It was very exciting for me. To be honest I do like the new songs. They are more electronic than the old ones, the sounding is not the same, but they turned out very good. Especially the lyrics. Most of them were written by Bill and Tom. They must be really talented. Anyway it was great to see how much they enjoy making music. They were smiling and looking at each other with bright eyes. It was really touching. After three hours of working they finally had a break.
- How do you like it? – David asked when he sat down next to me.
- I can’t believe I’m actually saying this, but I love it – I smiled.
- I told them you were never so interested in them. Tom is really offended – he laughed.
- I’m terribly sorry for him.
- Sure – he smiled widely.
- By the way I really like it. It’s so different from my memories of their music.
All of a sudden David’s phone started to ring. Since I didn’t want to disturb his call I stood up, grabbed my cigarette and went out to smoke. I sat down on a bench in the garden and had a look round. There were big and expensive cars with tinted windows everywhere.
- You’re voice is really beautiful – I heard somebody behind me. I quickly turned my head. It was Bill. When I looked into his eyes he smiled. – Do you mind if I sit here?– he asked.
- No. Not at all – I smiled back.
- I do – he nodded firmly. – But I’m not surprised. I knew what to expect. You always had a great voice.
