So, as #BoueibuRevolution is on, I decided to talk about a detail in season 1 I haven’t noticed until casually reading the TV Tropes’ article on Boueibu.
So a few weeks ago I was reading the article mostly out of curiosity when I came across this excerpt about Atsushi and Kinshirou’s stargazing scene:
There's a repeating motif of shooting stars in the sky which parallels the relationship between the two.
I’ve never noticed that before, so I went to the scene (both the ending and the actual scene of Kinshirou and Atsushi stargazing as children) to check it out by myself.
And there they were, three pairs of shooting stars consecutively crossing the night sky in opposite directions, insistently symbolizing what was soon going to happen between Atsushi and Kinshirou:
I was astonished because that was the sort of detail that only added more feels to that already emotional scene.
Then I wondered, “What about the last episode, when they finally get together?”. So I ran to episode 12 to check it out... just to remember that episode 12 doesn’t feature that scene, since its ending is different.
But then I watched the final scene again. That scene with all of them in Kurotama enjoying a bath and bonding together, and Kinshirou and Atsushi smiling at each other, and Yumoto cuddling Wombat one last time (in season 1, I mean), and Wombat screaming, and the scene shifts to the starry sky outside and...
... and we have a pair of shooting stars crossing the sky together, this time running along in the same direction.
When I noticed that I must confess my eyes filled with tears. Nothing but a few frames wrapping up the series in such a poetic manner, so befitting Atsushi, Kinshirou and their drama based on an innocent wishing on a star.
Maybe I’m just the last one to notice it (probably), but it was so special and heartwarming that I just needed to share this here. Boueibu has all its hilarious insanities, but also has some sweet subtleties like this one, and I’m in love once again.
