For Recurrence 1, 3, 5, 6, and for Binary System Blues 11, and 13!
//// ALCOHOLISM TW //////Recurrence:1. What inspired you to write the fic this way? Ah, pettiness? Annoyance -- I didn’t like the way some other existing fic had handled PTSD and alcoholism, and I didn’t like the way other fandoms had handled reincarnation fic. I thought I could handle it in a better way and so tried my hand at it. #petty3. What's your favorite line of narration? [Ethan] smooths his palms on his pants, carefully refusing to dwell on the unhelpful memories his brain immediately rustles up. Like, this sentence could two with two fewer adverbs for sure, but I like the meat of it -- evidence that Ethan has already started down the trailhead of recovery, as it were, /g, and also evidence of how much further he has to go5. What part was hardest to write? #oversharing but I started writing this before acknowledging my own alcoholism and, uh,6. What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics? Just how personal it is, mostly. Like, there’s a mundanity to it and its setting that isn’t shared by anything else I’ve written, too, in that it’s kind of just a quiet drama set in the present, whereas I favor stories with higher stakes most of the time. It feels intimate in a way a lot of other things I’ve written don’t feel, to me at leastBinary System Blues:11. What do you like best about this fic? The number formatting!! At the time, I felt like it was a little gimmicky, and like even now I’m not sure I don’t think that, but it’s meant to be fragmentary and a little impressionistic. Using numbers instead of line-breaks works well with how many breaks between scenes there are. 13. What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn't listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading? I listed to the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack!! Binary System Blues is technically a Cowboy Bebop fusion -- sidenote, do people still use that term? In my first fandom days, lmao, a crossover was where characters from different fandoms interacted, and a fusion was where characters from one fandom were placed in the setting of another, I’m not old but I’m probably Fandom Old, relatively speaking, and I have no idea if this is still a term in common use. But anyways Cowboy Bebop is incredible and for those of yall who haven’t seen it yet I can’t recommend it enough -- go for the dub over the subbed version, it’s streaming on Hulu. I’ve gotten waylaid here, my initial point was gonna be that the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack fuckin rules, here’s a link to the theme for the unfamiliar, and here’s a soundtrack best-of for reading accompaniment for the interested!
