2017 Florida Film Festival Schedule Announced
I’m so excited and proud of this year’s lineup—especially the Shorts Programs I helped select with my teammates Suzy Spang and Tim Anderson (FFF’s Programming Coordinator, pictured above at last night’s Announcement Party at Enzian Theater.) We had a record number of submissions this year (I watched somewhere in the neighborhood of 650 short films myself), and we can’t wait to share the cream of the crop next month.
I also could not be more proud of my former student Carey Kight, whose short film Cartoon Characters will be screening as part of Florida Shorts: The Best of Brouhaha.
This year’s visiting luminaries include Billy Crudup, who’ll share his 1999 drama Jesus’ Son, and David Zucker and Robert Hays, who’ll screen and discuss Airplane!, which surely is one of the greatest comedies ever made*. (The packed house at last night’s Announcement Party roared with laughter at the trailer for Airplane!, so I can’t wait to see this gem again in its entirety on the big screen with an amped-up festival crowd.)
The 26th annual Florida Film Festival kicks off Friday, April 21, and packs 182 films (including 139 premieres!) into its ten-day run. For more info or to purchase tickets, visit floridafilmfestival.com.
Congrats to Carey Kight, and all the rest of this years talented filmmakers. See you at the fest!
*Yes, it is. And don’t call me Shirley.
