How I feel about this character:

this comes as no surprise to anyone but i have entrenched myself deeply in duck newton as a character. i have grown my roots deep into this man and am draining his way of life and personality like a parasite. i changed my actual human college major because of this motherfucker. he means everything to me.

My unpopular opinion about this character:

duck newton never got his catharsis moment, his rock bottom breakdown, and for that i will never forgive the mcelroys. i want to see this man DESTROYED! i want to see him hopeless and desperate and lost and broken! instead i am given a weirdly pissed-but-not-upset-magnus-burnsides-bootleg who relishes in attacking monsters. my opinion? tear duck newton down and rebuild him as his new best self.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

pushing aside the glaringly obvious and viscerally upsetting answer, i think his disconnection from the sylvain plotline was interesting and they should have played on that concept more, rather than shoving all the worldbuilding for his lore in the very last episode and then flushing his character down the toilet. if they had done more to establish him and minerva as a part of another storyline, rather than just making billy explain it all, i genuinely would’ve enjoyed the light figures’ role in the story. hell, i wanted to know more about them! i was invested in that! give me duck stumbling into the truth and realizing hey, maybe shit is even more wack than we thought, and having to lead that investigation! give me duck as a leader trying to keep everyone together while he himself falls apart under the duress of his losses! give me good duck newton characterization! and then give him a boyfriend!
