Blame It On The Truth That Ran Us Down || Self-Para
Layla had been given a task that she really didn't want to do. They had asked her to spread a nasty rumour about Copeland. She couldn't do it. She could never do that to her best friend. To anyone, really. But she had to otherwise this anonymous person would tell her the truth. She couldn't let that happen because it would ruin everything. She was certain that Cope only thought of them as best friends with benefits and she would rather have that than nothing. She had to think of something good enough for this person but not so bad that her friend would hate her forever. She sat thinking about it for a while. She came up with a few things, some too harsh and some too weak. She finally decided on the classic 'she has an std.' She sighed. She was up for most anything but this... This is one thing that she never wanted to do. She was betraying her best friend. But it was for the best right? This way nothing would change. She just had to make sure that Cope never found out it was her who started it. That shouldn't be too hard. It could be anyone. There were like a thousand people in their school and it could have been any one of them, right?
Layla dragged herself out of bed and got dressed as quickly as she could. She wanted to get it done and over with before she could stop herself and just let whoever tell Copeland about her feelings. She drove to school but she couldn't bring herself to get out of the car right away. She sat there dreading what she was about to do. It was the only way, wasn't it? She suddenly felt tears streaming down her face. "Fuck." she muttered, pulling a kleenex out of the glove compartment and wiping her eyes. She stayed in the car a few more minutes until she looked presentable again and then got out of the car and walked to the front door of the school. Layla pulled open the door but hesitated a moment before stepping over the threshold. She walked up to the first person she saw and said, "You know Copeland Winters?" This was her last chance to back out. The thought of just saying 'nevermind' crossed her mind bu she had to do it. "I heard she slept with some guy and now she has aids." She regretted it the second she said it. Without giving the girl a chance to reply she walked away toward her locker.
By the time she reached the other side of the school, where her locker was located, the rumour had already spread across the school. She bit back more tears. Before Layla had the chance to do anything, the bell for first period rang. She grabbed her books and when she was about to close her locker and go to class, she remembered that Copeland was in her first period class so she threw her books back in her locker and walked back out to her car. She just sat there, thinking about all the possibilities.
