So apparently it’s the 20th anniversary of Bioware and I’m so grateful for this company, the games they’ve produced, the people (real and fictional) that I’ve gotten to know, the stories and character growth I’ve seen, and the countless hours I’ve spent lost in these worlds. I’m especially grateful for the inspiration they’ve given me and helping me realize my dream: write characters and stories of this caliber for video games in the future. They’re a huge part of my life and I really appreciate what they’ve done and the strides they’ve taken to make the video game community a better place for everyone, regardless of sex, orientation or race. They can still improve in places of course, but I think they’re doing better than most.
Bioware 20 years - hip hip hooray!
- I just installed Baldurs’ Gate on my laptop and spent hours trying to create the perfect character and finding the perfect portrait. - I just hugged my plush nug goodbye and packed it together with my things I’m moving to my new apartment (see you soon Nug!) - I just started my tenth DAI-character, and I just found Skyhold with my carta dwarf which I did together with ny boyfriend instead of watching a movie. - I just made a huge mindmap of the gods and peoples of early thedas to look at the timeline of crazy original theories. https://atlas.mindmup.com/2015/05/8b2e3720e2f10132363e16a0077a8099/the_maker_the_creators_creates_the_world/index.html - I just spent todays train trip discussing Mass Effect DLC:s. - My boyfriend just wore the Grey Warden t-shirt I bought him for our romantic dinner. - I just started writing fan fiction, how did that even happen? - I just visited a friend and we ended up playing your games and discussing rigs. - I just discovered that I went across the country accidentally carrying my Dragon Age Inquisition tarot deck all the way to the south of Sweden.
Seriously Bioware, what the heck would I do without you? ^_^
CONGRATULATIONS!
So bioware turned 20.
Christmas Day 2010. My sister bought me Dragon Age Origins. I didn't actually get around to playing it until about a week later and I remember thinking how amazing and incredible the game was. I was hooked from the start, my little dalish elf running around with the biggest sword you had ever seen. Falling in love with Alistair, choosing the king of Ostagar and defeating the blight. It was an amazing experience from start to end. I then played it again. And again. And again. As of right now, I have at least 22 completed save files for origins. Needless to say when I heard that Dragon Age 2 was coming out I was so excited it was all I could think about. I watched every Dev video read every article I could find until launch day. However my faithful PC decided to catch fire a week before launch. I couldn't have been more distraught. My dad on the other hand bought a new PC and made sure it could run Dragon Age 2. It arrived the day my copy came in the post. I played that game constantly. I'd come home from school and play it all night every night until Meredith was finally dead and the mages of Kirkwall freed from her tyranny. I then heard about Mass Effect and my first thought was "Dragon Age in space!!" I instantly grew to loving Mass Effect also, my Skylar Shepard saving the citadel with a gun in your face and a funny remark, recruiting the best and brightest from across the galaxy. Then Mads Effect 3 happened. If you ask any of my friends the time they most disliked me was the build up to Mass Effect 3. It was all I could think about, all I could talk about. I think I actually drove some friends away because of it, but I didn't care. I would soon be saving the galaxy from the reapers!! Then everything was quite for a while. I continued to re play the old games and all the DLCs, read all the books and all the comics. In 2013 I moved out to go to university, and my laptop couldn't handle video games. So what did I do? I bought dragon age and mass effect for my Xbox so I could continue to play them. In 2014 it was my 20th birthday on November 22. The day after Dragon Age Inquisition released. Once again it was all I could talk about, I didn't care if they were listening. And then my PC couldn't run it. Whilst everything was okay spec wise my graphics card had given up when it saw Dragon Age Inquisition and sadly had to be replaced. Once again my dad went and bought new parts for the PC so I could play Dragon Age. And now with news of Mass Effect 4 around the corner that excitement builds up again. What I'm really trying to get at here is that Bioware has been a big part of my life for a long time now, I started playing these games when I was 15, and instead of being obsessed with boyfriends/girlfriends or make up or clothes, I dedicated my teenage years to playing these stupid games, and now that I'm sort of an adult they stay with me even now. I have a shelf on my dvd rack and a shelf on my wall dedicated to only bioware games. Nothing else can go on then, and nothing else ever will.
My treasures <3 BioWare will always be special to me.
