Birdmen in a Steampunk AU

In which Tsubame is an engineer that specializes in mechanical wings and anything that can fly. She's in a secret relationship with Irene, who is an undercover spy trying to steal her work for a competing company. Irene does catch feelings along the way, because how could she not before such a brilliant and sweet woman.

A birdmen haikyuu au (or legitimately speaking volleyball) would be fun if im being honest. Obviously the teams wouldn’t be all guys or girls but mix because i say so. Also changing some points ig for Karasuma legitimately just not caring about the sport because it’s just a club itself, but along the way does gets into it with the strategy, analyzing teams n how they work and etc. Karasuma would be a good setter for the team obviously mirroring the bellwether ability he has.

The team is obviously the birdclub and irien into the mix and they are going to nationals. A bit hard to think who would be their coach but tatsume would fit probably! Anyway the other fractions of the birdmen can be the other teams tm that they play against. But mostly this au is more focus on the birdclub tm. + ig can be takayama and karasuma thing that they had going on in the series too like okkkkk. You want to be better and go higher than ever takayama I don’t think I cant keep going with you up till nationals. Or between you or me who stays in the court longer.

I have vividly like karasuma and Kamoda just entering the gymnasium and just seeing takayama “fly” so to speak like woah.

It’s in my insane mind guys. I’m normal about haikyuu and now ig birdmen!

CONTEXT! I had this AU where Eishi was in the same plane crash as Takayama and they both became birdmen at the same time without knowing it. Eishi became detached from his human connections pretty quickly (escalated by both his home and school situation) and he kinda just flew away in the same incident where him and Kamoda became friends.

Fast forward to a few years later, cannon events are happening without Eishi and Takayama can't shake off the feeling that something is missing. Cue Takayama's powers in form of helpful dream-ish visions about another universe where this stranger is always at the forefront of everything and he gets wondering.

I call this one the Early Birds AU!

Harpy or bird men Jonawagon! Speedwagon as a crow or raven harpy, a mischievous thief of a bird! Jonathan could be an eagle or an owl maybe. He a big fluffy boy.

Oooo! I like the idea of Jonathan being an owl. Big and fluffy! And Speedwagon as a raven/crow is very fitting!

[Birdmen AU]

He’d been falling last, before he woke up. So when the first thing he saw were Rui’s eyes, he knew it couldn’t be true.

Except… except nothing stood out as false. Not the man’s worried fretting, not the gasps of shock from the other outside the building. Not the cautious introduction-- “Hey, hi, ohgod isthatblood, are you okay? --Eishi, help me, I don’t know what I’m doing-- My name’s Rei, Rei Sagisawa, can you understand what I’m saying? Stay awake, please--”

His mind went to nonsense-- if you’re Rei and I’m Rei then who’s fighting the blackout?-- before exhaustion and confusion and the wrongness of the statement claimed him the first time.

“Sagisawa-kun, you pulled an Eichan.”

The second time he awoke, Kamoda had balanced his head on his laps, grinned down at him with a halo of mirth and sunshine. Rei offered him a smile back but felt altogether too exhausted to move from the impromptu pillow.

A familiar sting of embarrassment emanated through the room, “That’s not a thing. Please don’t make it a thing.”

He turned his head in lazy acknowledgement, his body still sore and complaining. Some fall, huh? Karasuma perched anxiously on the highest point of the room, a window ledge. As far as dreams went, he thought idly, this one wasn’t too bad.

He blinked at his surroundings. There were three other dark bodies in the room with him, and a tray of cookies and--water? Tea, maybe. Hospitable, they were in this little dream universe. Takayama was glaring at the door, his eyes intense and red. Rei flinched when they trained on him, but the stoic bird gestured to his ears.

In the midst of Eishi’s fretting and Kamoda’s teasing, Rei willed his wingmass with the shape of Nohara’s hearing aide in mind. It was as clunky in the dream as it was in his morning practices of the action, and he frowned slightly in annoyed concentration. Instantly he picked up on the harsh whispers from other areas of the place.

No--Rei-- you need to listen to me. That kid-- those kids? Should be in a hospital.

I know, I know, but they said that they were okay and--

--From the secondstoreyof a building! A! Building!

They were convincing! Besides, Mar says she’ll be here in ten and--

The sentence died off as the speaker lost his words. It was followed by a hesitant pause, then shuffling feet. 

What about the old man?

Working. He’ll try for later.

Useless doctor.

A light sigh.

He’s not even that kind of doctor, you toad.

And then they’d separated. The door slammed shut and the other guy (Eishi, so, other Karasuma? That was weird) fumed silently, salving anxieties with insults. Rei cast a sideways glance to the Karasuma near him, who blinked and blustered at the sudden attention. A coy grin that he’d never try in real life sent the vice-pres looking away in a flustered tiz, but this was a dream and it was okay to tease.

Karasuma might have protested, but Kamoda hushed him with a smile that threatened to explode from joy. Oh well. 

The other man-- his dream self?-- idled in that room, clicking through on a laptop with heavy presses before rapidly backspacing and retyping again. He couldn’t imagine much work was getting done. The other Karasuma was now pointedly avoiding the attic they’d been housed in (he could hear the footsteps up the stairs, the slight pause, the muttered curse, the receding march back down. This dream was really involved).

Rei frowned, a blip forming in his mental organization of the instances till that point. Blackout, then static, and suddenly he was in a Kamochan pillow being fed wafers. It was a birdmen thing then? Maybe? He’d stick with that for now, till they regrouped and--where was Tsubame?

“Not far,” Takayama interjected, his gaze on him, then up towards Karasuma as he added, “She’s staying put.”

Dream Takayama answered questions a lot better than real Takayama.

Kamoda snickered and Karasuma hid a laugh behind an unconvincing cough. Rei smiled.

He thought back to the dream him, ignoring how the similarities between him and his family felt… dull. He’d have thought it would hurt to see old phantoms in motion, and even most memories were tinted with regret or gloom or other sad things. He wondered if it was the wings at work-- usually he’d detransform much before he went to bed. But he figured he’d rather not find out. Enjoy the moment while it lasted.

Rei looked about the room. His room? Their room? It was a pale blue, silhouetted by dancing trees from the outside and wreathed with pictures from wall to wall. Some were smiles cast in ancient granules while others were more recent, splashes of colour and familiar-but-foreign faces.

Three sharp knocks sent the room in motion, and all eyes trained on Karasuma. He nodded to Takayama, and Rei pushed up from his temporary pillow as the door was pried open.

In walked blonde hair and a kind smile bearing bags. Behind her towed blue hair and wings that shed rigidity the moment they entered the room. 

Rei rose to greet Tsubame while Karasuma descended to the wooden floors, no doubt sizing up the familiar stranger. Tsubame meanwhile smiled broadly at him, then cast a look of uncertainty at dream Marilyn. 

“Hello kids~” she said, sitting, “How’re we feeling?”
