Danish ‘danseur noble’, Erik Bruhn (Oct. 3, 1928 - 1986) was one of the great ballet dancers of the 20th century.
Among his signature roles were Albrecht in Giselle, James in Bournonville’s La Sylphide, Romeo in Frederick Ashton's Romeo and Juliet, Jean in Birgit Cullberg’s Miss Julie, and Prince Siegfried in the Swan Lake.
After his active solo dancer career he went into choreography and also served as leader of the Royal Swedish Ballet and of the National Ballet of Canada. His life partner was Rudolph Nureyev, perhaps the greatest male ballet dancer of all time.

Swedish ballet dancer and choreographer, Birgit Cullberg, was born Aug. 3, 1908 (d. 1999). Her work was a great uplift and modernization of Swedish ballet, starting in 1950 with her version of Fröken Julie, based on the Strindberg play of the same name.
In the 1960s Cullberg headed her own ballet company, after working for the London Royal Ballet in the mid 1950s. She continued choreographing major plays and operas until her retirement in 1985.
