#don't take this literally i'm obsessed in the sense that i read a couple of fics in between working on papers #and went HELL YEAH #but look #it counts #birl talks

aro and ace people are really crying out for positive representation, huh

every time i make a post about a character being on the aro and/or ace spectrums, or write a fic where a character (it doesn’t even have to be an important character!) makes clear that they’re not interested in romantic or sexual relationships, i get at least one comment or tag or reply thanking me for that. sometimes a bunch of people. sometimes people tell me they teared up or they talk about what it means to them to be able to relate in that way to a character they love

and as an ace person myself, it’s almost ridiculous how freeing and easy it is to write stories where the protagonist isn’t interested in romance, especially when they don’t need to go through some kind of bad experience to realize it--they just know, and that knowledge is never tested or treated like a challenge

so i’m going to try to let myself take the easy path more often and write more characters who aren’t allo, because people like me need it and i think i need it too

i’m not sure what point i’m making, exactly, but i wanted to say that this is a thing i’ve experienced, and to everyone who’s left a comment on one of my posts or fics thanking me for writing/headcanoning a character as aro or ace, i feel you, and i’m there with you.

okay i know it’s late april but technically every day is the start of a new year (and so is like, every instant if we’re really getting into it) and i work better under time pressure anyway SO i’ve decided my new year’s resolution is to finally figure out how to balance hydrating my hair and not weighing it down because i am TIRED
