Hi, so I was asking drop-deaddream about thoughts she had on a Captain America Tolkien-verse AU (bc she mentioned cowboy-Bucky looking like Aragorn) and she said to come to you bc you took a Tolkien class (that's so cool btw!) and I was just wondering... thoughts? ideas? headcanons? Thank you, you're awesome!
Oh my god this sounds kind of epic. Like, I have no idea how it would work, but it sounds amazing. I think it would be especially interesting to explore because both the classic idea of Captain America, and Tolkien’s world, are heavily dependent on a clear idea of right and wrong… which is why fanfiction (and CATWS) is so interesting in these ‘verses, because you can explore the morally and ethically grey side of things.
That said, I can’t imagine pre-serum Steve would have survived past infancy, and I can’t imagine Bucky going to war without serious provocation. I can see him as maybe a merchant’s son in Minas Tirith, watching the world go to shit around him, and maybe thinking “I’m gonna die either way, may as well fight.” Also I can totally see the Howling Commandoes as a group of rangers, or maybe riders of Rohan, who delight in killing orcs. So maybe Bucky joins up with them.
Admittedly, I have ignored Steve because I assumed he was dead, but just for kicks, lets pretend that he was just born especially strong. Maybe he’s part elf. Actually, lets just be honest. Steve is Aragorn. He’s too noble and too good a leader not to be. Aragorn is a lot more tempered and calm than Steve but that’s what happens when you’re like 87 instead of 25. Also Peggy is what movie Arwen should have been.

I mean I guess you could reverse that and make Bucky Arwen and Peggy Eowyn but let’s be real Peggy would have ditched her uncle and made herself a shieldmaiden (OH MY GOD SHIELD MAIDEN. SHIELD. I AM SORRY) a long time ago.

"I'm going to die," the guy next to Steve says, and he's strangely cheerful for the seriousness of his statement, and Steve looks over at him to see that he's dumping a Five Hour Energy into his coffee.
"That's probably -- not so good," Steve says, unsure what to do in the situation, especially when he's still not fully awake, and the guy grins in a simultaneously hot and tired way.
"You know what else is not good, pal, seven thirty classes on -- on whatever the fuck this class is on, that's not good."
