Bishop Peak, California - by Christopher Petro
I recently got up the courage to actively seek out climbing partners. Today I met up with two older guys who showed me around Bishop Peak in SLO. They were cool to climb with and it felt good to be back in a harness. I have been worried recently about my strength with no training. They said we were going to do two climbs, one easy and one hard. Ended up doing a lot better than I thought I would. Felt balanced and solid on the wall. One was a 5.8 and the other a 5.9+ that was described on Mountain Project as ‘harder than Yosemite 5.9’. That’s a nice confidence booster. Since they wanted to end early I met up with another person to climb in the local gym I’ve been wanting to check out. (Too hot to keep climbing outside). Still need more stamina work but I still felt solid on the wall. Feeling pretty happy about it all. Got another person to climb with tomorrow at another crag. Glad I decided to stop letting my social anxiety keep me from reaching out.
