RGF launched a new selection program and anybody who’s anybody attended
From what I gather, the program is much like B&B’s 'Tara, tara vrem campioane’. It’s called ‘Hai cu noi in tara campionilor’ (Join us in the land of champions) and will recruit talented 4-6 year old girls that have potential to make the national team. A lot of big names attended the event, including B&B, Andreea Raducan (RGF President), Adrian Stoica (RGF Honorary President), Forminte (WAG headcoach), Sandra Izbasa and Monica Rosu.
Andreea Raducan asked everyone to get involved in order to get our gymnastics program back on track, and said this campaign will save us from future complaints of not having enough gymnasts to work with. She hopes she can be a role model for young girls stepping into the gym, and urged her former teammates tostand with her, so that they can help and insipre children.
Raducan also notes that since our teams rely on two athletes only, Iordache and Dragulescu, the current situation is pretty sad.
Mariana Bitang, on the other hand, talked about the coaches’ situation, and said there is not as much of a selection problem, but more of a financial one. According to her, there are a lot of children in the gyms, but they don’t have coaches to guide them. She asks for more investors in order to make things better. Asked about whether it would be a right time for a change in the NT’s coaching staff, she said it’s natural to try to refresh things, but that’s easier said than done, since you need better alternatives. Bitang said she fully trusts Raducan.
Sandra Izbasa said they wish a strong team would form around Larisa Iordache, and have said team do well at Euros and Worlds, since the quals process to Tokyo will be starting. She thinks it would be a shame to train so much and not make it to the Olympics, and she doesn’t want to say that she’s afraid of the quals result. It’s all up to the girls and they must at least want to attent the Olympic Games.
