I firmly believe that Max leaves to go find Nux and Doof and Slit and drags them back to the citadel. What'd you think Max is up to? I think he comes up with excuses to go stop by the citadel but never stays for more than a month.
dude ok i think that max would go back to the big wreckage to look for the interceptor– JUST THE INTERCEPTOR MIND U nothing about that weird gangly war boy who kept calling him blood bag and eventually saved them all no way max doesn’t want to see if he’s still alive how dare u even suggest it– and of course he finds nux still alive
coughing up a lung and covered in sand and dirt and burns and scrapes but still alive
and nux just wearily grins at him and calls him blood bag and is just so soooo happy to have been found and max is still grateful for the whole flipping the rig and saving their asses bit that he hoists him up and lets him wrap an arm around his neck for support and they keep on in search of the interceptor
they find it and with it is of course slit (badly burned and bleary and injured but still alive) and nux vouches for him –and even though max holds a grudge like a son of a bitch and this war boy tried to run him down for god’s sake– he feels like he owes nux one so he lifts slit ((who of course is complaining and rude even in his half-dead state bc it’s slit)) and ditches the hollowed out corpse of the interceptor and they head back to the citadel, pausing every once in a while so nux can catch his breath and max can re-position his fashionable injured war boy scarf that is slit
(AND COMA HEARS PEOPLE SO HE FINDS HIS WAY OVER TO THEM AND NUX SEES PART OF HIS GUITAR STICKING OUT OF THE SAND AND HANDS IT TO HIM AND HE GRINS THIS TERRIFYING BUT ODDLY ADORABLE GRIN AND MAX IS LIKE HOW DID IT COME TO THIS)
so furiosa’s watching from a tower in the citadel waiting for max to return (probably with a souvenir of his beloved wrecked car) but instead she sees him with an injured but still enthusiastic nux, a grumpy and half-comatose staple faced war boy slung across his shoulders, and coma the doof warrior, still grinning his weirdly endearing smile and clutching the surviving remains of a beaten-to-hell-and-back electric guitar.
(and capable fixes nux right up, slit finds himself with a group of immediate friends who, at nux’s prompting, eventually learn to live with his slit-ness), and the dag and toast help coma fix his guitar the end.)
