Revisiting the campaign
I felt like taking amother look at the campaign. I only ever played it once as a sort of tutorial and then completely fogot about it. I’m pretty sure that’s how it was for most people.
Replaying the early levels was actually kind of “hard” for me. I usually build very “modular” factories. I’m just used to building the same assemblies over and over again, it took a while to get used to a more “spaghetti” approach to building again. I mean, look at it! Don’t you just crave some tomato sauce after seeing this?
I remember my favourite level was the one where you start with a few demolished rail lines and a broken base. Rebuilding the rail lines and getting the base back to work was a lot of fun. Just watch those defenses near the mining outposts, there are biters around! And I remember thinking “wow, what a huge base”, but from today’s point of view, it’s really tiny!
They did improve the “damaged rail” entites, they look great! God, remember what rails used to look like? Geez.
While all levels use the new graphics, some haven’t quite been polished yet and are still very pixelated. The left one is level four of the campaign. The right one is from level one, which apparenty has already been somewhat smoothed, as far as tile transition goes.
There is of course, also level three. Which I still hate with a passion. Even with my current experince, beating the level was quite challenging! Then again, I was never a big fan of biter fighting (unless I’m extremly overpowered, with shields, personal laser defense, exoskeleton legs, nuclear ammo, preferably from the safety of my tank, maybe a nuke or two ... ).
In other news, according to the last Friday Facts the dev team has decided to leave bots as they are for now. We don’t know what they’ll do, but they’re at least taking some more time to think about the issue. Which is better than just nerfing stuff, which always struck me as kind of “the easy way out” as far as the whole bots vs. belts issue goes.
