Okay, I have come to the conclusion that there is something seriously wrong with my big machine right now, and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it. I have the GUI back, but it won't compile anything.
i.e int main() { return 42; } will not compile. That is about the simplest code you could possibly have, it isn't even a hello world. Go to python
>>> 3 + 3
no
>>> 4 + 1
no
What is that supposed to even mean? Actually, I would like to know how to program something like that. I guess an operator overload, but the logic... eh.
It could be attributed to the fact that I haven't actually ever cleaned out my home partition, only the other partitions where the rest of the os sits. Some of those config files date back to 2011 from a computer that is sadly no longer with us. Anyway, I've decided to wipe the entire drive this time and start from scratch, things might work a bit more smoothly. Though, I'm kind of sad that it started acting weirdly, since it was working fine before I left for England.
Anyway, on a side note, there is this program called bitsync or btsync. It uses bittorrent to act like a dropbox between two computers. I have my configured to only work on the same network, so I don't have to worry about prying eyes, since my router is sitting in my bedroom and I'm hardwired. It is really fast, and basically like an infinite dropbox or usb, but instead of running back and forth with the flash drive, I just drag and drop and bam, it is on my other hard drive. I'm using it pretty heavily at the moment while I rescue the files that I would like to keep. It is actually incredibly fast too. I just transferred all of my pictures (2.9 gb) in 3 minutes. So,
Anyway, my little machine seems to be working happily right now. First try, the cross compiler compiled fine. Other than the wait while it was building the whole thing, it was really smooth. So, while I'm not happy about going back to a little screen and little keyboard, it does work.
