Hermione's boyfriend was nice. He had a nice smile and a nice job. Still, Hermione couldn't help but paste a fake smile on her face whenever he smiled sweetly and called her "love". It was nice, of course--and Merlin, there was that word again--but she was completely and utterly bored out of her mind. Even Severus could see it, and he made his opinion on the matter known every time he mocked the endearment: love. Oh, but then...well. How did that song go again? "The truth about love is, it's..." It was stupid, perhaps--what she and Severus were doing--but that was exactly what it felt like.
