INTRODUCING - BITTER ALICE
Introducing Bitter Alice, a 5-piece hard rock band consisting of members Kieran Hunter (Vocals), Jack Turner (Rhythm Guitar), Craig Turnbull (Lead Guitar), Dylan Fullarton (Bass) and Ben White (Drums). We caught up with the band last month who have been in the studio working towards their debut gig;
PLEASE GIVE US A BIO ON THE BAND, AND HOW YOU GOT TOGETHER?
Bitter Alice are a 5-piece hard rock band from Central Scotland. We formed early 2017 as a means to have a laid back and fun time in the studio after we all felt disheartened by the way our previous bands had turned out. However, we soon realised that our musical chemistry was too great not to pursue something more professional again and got straight to work. We found early on that our writing process came very naturally.
BITTER ALICE, WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM?
The name was actually something we spent a good few weeks trading ideas with in our online group chat. Trying to come up with the perfect name that represents your music is actually quite a difficult task however we feel like we’ve nailed it! It was actually Jacks dad who brought “Bitter Alice” to the table. We instantly loved it as we felt it was the perfect metaphor for all the prima-donnas we had all worked with in the past that we’ve now escaped from.
WHAT ARE YOUR MUSICAL INFLUENCES AND FANS OF WHICH BANDS WILL LOVE YOUR MUSIC?
The great thing about this band is we’ve all became really great friends through our own influences. Being able to connect with your band mates through music is literally the most basic foundation to writing great songs and music that is actually honest. Our biggest influence as a band would have to be Guns N’ Roses. Not just as a band, but individually the members of Guns have been a massive part in shaping us as musicians from an early age. We would definitely not be doing this today if it wasn’t for a mutual respect for their music.
WHAT CURRENT MUSIC ARE YOU GUYS LISTENING TO?
We actually take a great interest in the bands releasing music in our local area. Bands such as; Ghostwriter, Fairweather and the Elements, The Patryns, The Nickajack Men frequent our playlists. We all feel that it is very important to support our local scene as having a strong home following is the key to every bands success in the long run. Other bands we’re currently listening to include anything from The Dead Daises to surprisingly, the brand new Harry Styles album. Inspiration can come from anywhere and it’s important not to keep yourself boxed into the same music.
DO YOU HAVE ANY GIGS COMING UP AND WHAT VENUE WOULD YOU LOVE TO PLAY?
We have actually just announced our debut show. We’re playing Ivory Blacks on Sunday 27th August and we’ve already sold out of the first batch of tickets. The support has been totally overwhelming but we appreciate it to the highest level. Old fans can expect the same high energy show we brought to the stage time and time again in our previous bands but taken up a gear and there may be a few surprises in there also! As for venues we’d love to play; we’ve always said from the start if we could get onto the academy circuit as a support slot then we’d be happy. But obviously the dream has to be Slane Castle or Maddison Square Garden and of course Hampden and Wembley… one day!
