As he was thrown off his wyvern, his mind entered a state of utter chaos — he was paralyzed, unable to move any part of his body be it his head or his axe arm.
The last thing he heard was Minerva roaring as she was separated from her master in battle, then the world seemed to go quiet for a split second, up until he was knocked to the ground violently by a flash of orange.
Gaius?
He opened his eyes again after regaining his composure, looking up to see a lance impale his father’s stomach, right before a finishing blow was landed onto the enemy.
Scrambling, he immediately got up to fetch a vulnerary, an elixir, something that would help. He didn’t know why he was suddenly so desperate — he’d vowed to show no emotion, but why was it that he was fearful? He told himself that his emotions would not get in the way of completing his task of seeing his parents through the war.
"Don’t waste that on me, kiddo—"
"S-Shut up and accept it."
The thief chuckled, only to wince as the spear moved painfully inside his body.
"Hah.. I knew you wouldn’t be able to see it through.. But it’s.. okay.. You’re just a kid.." He smirked, his famous one sided grin spread across his face as he motioned his son down to ruffle his hair one last time.
"Take care of her.. Or you’ll really get it from me—"
"You are perfectly capable of doing so yourself! Don’t spew such nonsense—"
But he was crying behind his mask. Of course he wanted to conceal that desperately, but he was so ashamed. He knew he failed.
"Stubborn.. ‘till the end, eh..?" Gaius let out a painful groan before he went still.
The rider knelt before his fallen father, silently cursing himself as he realized that fate would never grant him his wish.
