Another piece in the privacy arsenal
I'm always on the look-out for ways to protect my on-line privacy. Sure, I post my e-mail address on this blog and welcome comments, but I don't want big business or government surveillance of my browsing activities.
With that in mind I suggest anyone with file transfer or sync requirements between computers take a look at BitTorentSync. Similar in a way to Dropbox and the like, it differs radically in one aspect -- your data is not uploaded to a central server before synching. It goes directly from one machine to another, using a variation of the BitTorrent technology that is so prevalent. Your data is also encrypted en route so any observer would only see gobbledy-gook (but you should be using a VPN anyways!)
Since it is peer-to-peer, there is no worry about quota/storage limitations. Any change on any machine will be synched to any other machine sharing the same file/folder. You can also share specific files or folders with anyone else using secure invitation protocols.
