Hello here. Quick question, do you think it would be alright if I got a recast of my out of production grail? When I was in middleschool buying that doll was all I had keeping me from suicide... however the doll is out of production. Is there somewhere we can anonymously ask for doll finding help?

First off, Anon, I’m sorry for your struggle, but I’m happy you’re still looking for your grail. <3

Then, yes, for “antirecast” (or “proartists”) every and any recast “it’s wrong”, and they never contemplate the entire story. They will tell you to get a different legit doll, or to live without the doll “because isn’t food” (even if for your psychological health is important). They just don’t care, so try asking only on recast friendly places or at very least neutral. Otherwise they’ll insult you and bully you, and that’s the least you need right now (just click here for recommendations on pro and neutral recast communities).

Third, we can help if you tell me what sculpt you’re looking for or what you want to do with more detail (don’t worry we will answer keeping your sculpt and your name completely anonymous), Admin O and me can do a search or something to see if we can help you out. We’re here to help Anon.

I found a head sculpt I love, but finding it available in tan has proven to be impossible. The legit company is currently on hiatus, so even if I could, I would not be able to get the "holy grail". I decided to buy a recast because, really, it's my money, and my doll hobby is for me, no one else. (Besides, it means more money for clothes and wigs!)

If you honestly have the audacity to tell someone that their grail is ugly / not worth caring for to their face, I just want you to know that you are awful and should not belong in the community. Someone’s grail even if recast could mean everything to them, and you dare to take such a giant dump all over it? What is wrong with you? Who hurt you to the point where you think treating someone’s grail like that is okay?!

There are ~grail~ dolls, and then there are dolls that I really, REALLY want which are somehow not grail dolls in my mind. Today, I wanted to go through all of the dolls I wanted since starting the hobby in 2009, and rank them based on how I feel about them now. Since it's chronological order, you'll probably also get a pretty good idea of my taste in dolls and how that's also changed over time.

I get this feeling not a lot of people knows the real definition of the word grail in the hobby. I keep seeing all these people with a full collection of “grail” dolls and the misuse of the word is really bugging me.

A basic doll is not a grail. A doll you really want and end up purchasing within a few years is not a grail. Yes, it might be limited, but if it’s readily available on the marketplace, it’s not a grail. A grail is something that’s very hard to get. For example, one-off dolls and previously released, extremely limited dolls (less than 100 in the world) are considered grail dolls.

If you have a doll that you really want, but with a price tag that’s way out of your budget? It’s a doll you’re yearning for. A doll you really like and intend to purchase in the near future? It’s a doll you want.

Grail dolls are not something you purchase, and then easily decide to sell after, simply because they are so difficult to come by.

my grail doll is on sale she's like 230 dollars iVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!! IVE BEEN WAITING AND,, I currently don't have the money for her. :(
